What is IPTV?

IPTV is an abbreviation for Internet Protocol Television.

It is a form of broadcasting in which the internet is used to deliver content instead of cables and satellites.

IPTV is different from traditional TV in three main aspects,

In traditional TV, data is transmitted as multicast signals, whereas in IPTV unicast signals are transmitted.

In a traditional TV, cables are connected to a TV to receive signals from satellites. In an IPTV, you can cut the cords but your TV must be capable of receiving data over the internet.

In IPTV, video is streamed to devices that are connected to a particular network based on IP. Whereas in OTT this is done on the open internet.

A dedicated set-top box or IP network is needed for IPTV. on the other hand, any internet connection will do for OTT.

IPTV usually works on a Subscription model. OTT works on various monetization models like SVOD, TVOD, AVOD, and combinations of all.

IPTV service providers usually serve locally, whereas OTT services are generally global.
