Japanese jujitsu does get any recognition if it wasn't for Japanese jujitsu there wouldn't be any judo or BJJ

They would probably carry a spear, early gun or bow. Swords where mostly back up weapons.

Actually, in warfare, the samurai mainly used the bow (Yumi) and spear (Yari or Naginata), and the longsword (Ōdachi), the Katana, and Wakizashi were used as status symbols but rarely in combat.

The Samurai are the orgins of jiu-jitsu or jūjutsu where judo/ aki-jūjutsu-jiu-jitsu came from . so always respect for what they created, Bushido! 🥋⛩⚔

My dear friend, The Katana was a samurai's sidearm, their primary weapon for melee was either the Yari or the Naginata, that would be a better presentation of JJ.

Someone should teach him how to properly resheath a katana safely so he doesn't cut himself.
Takenouchi Ryu is the oldest living samurai bugei and jujutsu school dating back to feudal samurai bushi era.

Although we westerners thing that samurai used swords on the battlefield most of the time, they were the last thing they would pull out, it was for the emergency only. And if the loose a katana they they still had wakizashi or tanto. Then, and only then, would they try to subdue their opponent using gentle art (jiujitsu). Every japanese know that. This is just a small historical fact. The video is amazing btw. I’ve ordered my Origin gi and I can’t wait to roll in it ❤️

You be surprised how many people I've encounter that have no idea that Jujutsu used to be Japanese before BJJ popularized the word jujutsu

Wait is this Brazilian or Japanese jiu-jitsu? Because the gi and belt make me think its bjj but bjj was never used by samurai

It would be nice if one day so called bjj and judo would be viewed as the same art wich they are and this one big art is all Japanese in origin not Brazilian, Chinese, Indian. Like I said it would be nice for ppl to just start calling it judo and acknowledge that the Japanese samari gave us all this and for them to get all the credit and for ppl to learn and appreciate the Japanese names of all the moves and learn the real history of all this.

That shinken was probably made in China. I wonder what brand it is?

Honestly, juijitsu would be used far more often than the samurai losing their sword. Watch a kendo match, or any of naginata, jukendo, or tankendo, any exchange which did not end in ippon would end with juijitsu. Armor made juijitsu all the more likely.

I'm pretty sure Aikido was specifically trained and used by Samurai's to protect themselves when they dropped a sword. That being said, Aikido still comes from traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu so this video is semi accurate. But to say that BJJ comes from samurai would be completely wrong
