What i thought he was gonna say: Certain villager trades don't need emeralds. For an example, a farmer might want 21 carrots for 1 emerald.

Yeah, but this isn't trading, this mechanic is called gifts and they aren't super useful since the cool down is 5 minutes and 30 seconds, and you're not able to receive gifts at night. And in an addition to that it isn't possible to trade for free, even if you give yourself hero of the village with the strength of 255, you'll always trade 1 emerald per item
