The fact that Nintendo is essentially a _toy_ company influences its product philosophy until today. In my opinion, this is the reason, why Nintendo products always seem so weirdly different from other "videogame" companies.

Brilliant explanation - Especially at the end where Nintendo ends up working with Lego rather than competing with them.

Wait, they collaborated with Lego to make a Mario statue that looks similar to the Mario statue of Mario Zone. And at the top of Mario Zone is a reference to Nintendo’s direct competition to Lego. The mad lads.

I never knew Nintendo made there own Lego like blocks to compete with Lego

Nintendo before: time to make my own bulding toys
Nintendo now: time to collab with Lego for LEGO MARIO

"If you can't beat em, join em"
And if you can't do that either, sue them into oblivion

No wonder when Mario walk on them, he isn’t shrieking in pain like when anyone stepped on a Lego block while barefooted.

bro and the mario map at the start even looks so much like lego mario that’s insane

The interior of the Viridian Gym in Pokémon Gold and Silver also features a reference to those blocks.

I’m more surprised at how Mario casually walks on Lego bricks like it’s nothing.

Holy hell.. is this an actual "Obscure Reference" video that I didn't already know for once...?! My god, it is!!!

Props to you man! Here's a like and a sub for being the first!

Don't forget that different LEGO brands had holes in the top of their bricks instead of being filled in.

Mario Zone in itself was a really bizarre world. Even its boss was literally Three Little Pigs!😲

I have always wondered about that N & B thanks for clarifying!

When I saw that mario level, I almost cried. I played the whole game in my childhood.. the music was an absolute jam.

Even though I'm a massive fan of both companies. the fact that Nintendo tried to go to war with LEGO, & then share a license with them 30 some years later, is hilarious

Woah that's an interesting fact. Not something common like "DID YOU KNOW LUIGI'S SPRITE WASN'T GREEN AND BLUE IN 1984".

The second level in this same world also contains a very obscure reference to the fact that Mario has balls.

I played this millions of times as a kid and never noticed the N&B. 🤯
