Look even if people disagree on the ending, can we all agree how satisfying it was to see Marty finally snap and beat the crap out of that guy.

If making the audience hate your character is the sign of a great actor, Laura should get all the awards.

I didn't want to see Ruth die. However, she wanted revenge and was willing to pay the ultimate price to get it. I came to expect nothing less from her.

I was one of those who wanted Wendy to die. I don't believe it comes from a sexist place. I saw Marty as trying to everything in his power to stay alive and keep his family alive. Wendy was so much more ambitious . She wanted power at all cost. She seemed to love her kids, but even their safety was second to her ambition. Every time Marty, who was always the smartest person in the room had things figured out, Wendy did something that got them deeper in. Just my opinion .

Ruth being killed at the end..Just points to a metaphorical symbolic truth that poor people from crime ridden backgrounds rarely win or make it out. Their stories are the most tragic. I love the quote from Ruth where she says,
"I am smart enough to know how fucked my situation is, but not smart enough to get out of it".

This encompasses the feelings of people coming from lower class systems with systemic poverty, abuse and crime .

The byrds-middle class family they ultimately win the game.

I liked the ending because I felt it was realistic but Ruth was my favorite character and I hated seeing her go down. RIP RUTH.

I wish we could have gotten a flashback with Del. He was the best antagonist in the series imo. Compared to Navarro's other lieutenants, who seemed like rough thugs, Del was suave and imposing like a Bond villain. It would have been nice to see a flashback involving Navarro, Javi, and Del. I would have liked to have seen the interactions between those three.

Laura Linney deserves that Emmy! Julia Gardner has always been great, but Wendy Bryde really shined this season with her break downs & dragging herself to the end.

The accident in the mini-van was a “wake-up” call for all of them, uniting them as a family. After that, they were all working to strengthen their relationship and to protect each other. At the end when Jonas is pointing the shotgun and no-one made a sound and simply let the quiet talk….it was a piece of art!!!

Still mourning Ruth tho!!!

The car crash was necessary to bring the family together again. Jonah realized how much he loved is mother and the emotional aspect of it really confirmed how they are sticking together until the end.

Arguably one of the best shows out there. However, season 4 felt rushed and somewhat chaotic for me, and there’s still questions left unanswered. In my opinion there’s no closure on the Byrds future which leaves a lot of doors open for interpretation.

My raw feeling when watching the ending was this. Just underwhelmed. I wasn't surprised at Jonah or either shocked by it since I could see where the family was going. Ruth dying was a bit of a shock but I wasn't angry either. She made that decision the minute she killed Javi and Wendy even told her what would happen. She didn't care. The whole point was to be underwhelmed by the ending because, in reality, there was no ending for the Byrdes. that IS their life. There will always be another Cartel boss as you say.

I loved this show all the way through. Your analysis made the ending even better for me.

Just one thing in that finale that actually caught me by surprise was Claire Shaw saying “it was Ruth Langmore” and changing the whole aura of the episode. She could’ve easily said no, but she spilled everything in an instant, right in front of the Byrdes. Hit me in the gut knowing that Ruth was as good as dead at that point. Truly well written.

I hated the ending because I was truly pulling for Ruth to make it out alive. She usually thought things through with some rationality. She acted on emotion and Marty had previously warned her "don't get yourself killed". I loved Ruth's character but this story was about the Byrds. Laura Linney was superb. She chopped off Marty's legs at every turn. So much so that Marty had to concede to her. Every scene was filled with tension. I loved it. Three cheers to Jason Bateman. ❤️ love you Ruth.

It was a great finale. Really hammered home that no matter what the Byrdes do, it will never end. They are in so deep, no escape from that corrupt life is possible.

I watched about five videos similar to this and this is by far the best one. Great work. Thank you!

It blows my mind that Julia Garner plays both Ruth AND Anna Devley. They’re both so different. Her and Laura Linney are both really great actresses.

I believe it was destined for Jonah to kill. He may have rejected killing the deer, as the deer was no threat to him or his family.
But Garcia was. But Buddy took that opportunity away from Jonah. But the final episode demonstrated that Jonah, even with his issues with his parents, would still protect them. He would protect his family.
The smile on Wendy and Marty’s face said it all. They literally beamed with pride .
With Charlotte watching .
Mel stepped into the Lions den . He was the goat … (symbolic cookie jar) .
And he got devoured .
The Byrde family… STRAIGHT GANGSTA!

The one part of the finale I can’t get over is how Marty didn’t seem more conflicted / distraught over warning Ruth they were going to come after her. He just seemed to accept the fate without trying and that felt heartbreaking knowing he has always looked out for Ruth and the relationship they had built, which clearly wavered towards the final seaons but I expected him to protect her more in that final moment
