Microsoft Flight Simulator - Big Answers on 2024, 15 Million Players and More

New details on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 were revealed at the Flight Sim Expo 2024. This included information on the marketplace and what it means for old 2020 purchases.

Even if more than 80% of the customers are from NA or Europe, it doesn't mean they only want to fly in NA or Europe. The principle of having a sim that covers the whole world is that you can go to places you've never been IRL

makes me wonder, since much of the details are basically streamed, why do we have to download big regional updates, why not update the servers and we'll stream the details off that?

Surely, what gets released in the way of photogrammetry simply depends on what is available? For instance, not even Google has Nairobi in 3D on Google Earth.

I'm from south america and I belive that a good reason why in-sim sales happens mostly within the first world is because of the lack of localized prices in the store. A 20 dollar addon is really expensive for most of the world and the more expensive ones such as PMDG are downright prohibitely expensive unless you're a major enthusiast. There are many planes I'd like to try out, but if I have to weight in between buying one addon or a ton of games in the summer sale then it's not really a choice.

I don't fully agree with the practice of focusing on the U.S. and Europe when updating the world detail, since players in those regions are obviously interested in flying around and sightseeing in other regions of the world too.

The one aspect of MSFS2024 I am keen to hear more about is the thin client approach they are aiming for. This is going to be a BIG difference between 2020 and 2024

So rather than you downloading gigabytes of data with each update, you will only be downloading the data you require for the flight/area you are doing.

Will this be a solution or a source of annoyance ?

I'm curious if the Top Gun mod will be moved. Given it's licensing not allowing it to be given away anymore, are they allowed to update it to a new SKU?

Allentown, PA? Even being a "local", I can't think of a special reason for that to be included off the top of my head.... there are a ton of other locations that I would rank higher before I would expect that.

Hi all...how will effect all the 3rd party airports and aircraft we've bought outside of the market place...spent hundreds like most on here, so why would you waste more money on 2020 if your going to move to 2024?

this is make or break for me. 2024 is looking spectacular but unless i can seamlessly transfer the vast majority of my aircraft and scenery, i’m not interested.

Could you not just copy paste an addon aircraft folder from the 2020 install to the 2024 install on release day and give it a try?

I suspect whatever new functions that are in FS2024 wont work for 2020 planes. For example, passengers wont load in seats, and if you get out of the plane, you'd probably just spawn at its CG instead of near a door, etc.

I cant really believe their Numbers on Marketplace sales Locations. South America has a big Sim Base, no way they make less than 1 Percent of the sales.

One thing I would like to know more about is what kind of performance we can expect in MSFS 2024. I'm a bit surprised this question hasn't been asked or maybe it was and I missed it.

Given the amazing visuals we've seen in the previews, that would suggest it will be very demanding. On the other hand, as I understand it, the core of the sim has finally been replaced with modern technology which will make much better use of modern hardware.

So...maybe these two will take and give equally much looking at the performance. Meaning we could expect similar performance we see today in MSFS 2020.

Just thinking out aloud here but as I started, would be interesting to hear more about this.
