I just think its insane how fast this thing was going. Almost 16, 000 miles per hour?! I would love to have seen the size of that splash when it flipped and went into the ocean going that quick.

Multi-million dollar project, hypersonic aircraft.
They could not afford an $200 HD camera.

I wonder when Pizza Hut will have these. c:

Given the high secrecy of technical details, it is good enough that we even have this footage...

On April 22, 2010, DARPA launched the first flight of the Falcon HTV-2, a flight that lasted nine minutes in all, including 139 seconds of speeds between Mach 17 and Mach 22. The test successfully kept the craft in contact with the Global Positioning System, despite traveling at 3.6 miles per second, kept in constant two-way communication with the vehicle, and used its reaction control system effectively.

this explains this 13, 00o mph vehicle being called a ufo now.

The HVT-2 is designed to go well over Mach 20.

Thanks DARPA for sharing this video and enlightening us with such technology. Can you please post other secret technologies you guys are working on? I don't see a point of secrecy, it only makes us proud to be part of the work of these advanced technologies by spending our tax money on them. At least if people know where their tax dollars goes no one would complain.

"unmanned aircraft" in this case is just a nice way of saying hypersonic international 'smart' missile. lets call a spade a spade and not get lost in the semantics. its just a really badass next-generation missile.

Think about it. Most of our advances in biomedical sciences and engineering came about because of advances in materials and knowledge of fluid and gas dynamics made during the last 50 years, mostly from COLD WAR AEROSPACE RESEARCH. I'm not advocating another arms race or cold war, but it's fairly obvious that technology propagates through all sectors. The internet was invented as a communications device for military computers and missile defense. Has that not benefited the civilian sector?

@theSillyOlBear the only propulsion system used on HTV-2, besides an atitude ajust system, was the Minotar IV that launched the HTV-2 into the proper atmosphere.
