How to convert .MOV to .MP4 using VLC Media Player

Not only mov to mp4 you can convert video file from any format to mp4 using VLC media player. it is very easy and simple Just follow the steps. You need VLC Media Player to this

1) First download and install VLC Media Player

2) open VLC Media Player

3) Go to Media -- convert /save

4) Click on "add" and select the files which you want to convert and click on open

5) Click on Convert / save

7) Now select the output format from the drop down

8) Finally click on "START" and wait till it gets completed

*Click Keep original audio track, click Save

This video did work, the quality is slightly reduced but the amount it reduces file size and being able to transfer onto a phone, its worth it. Sound did work with mine, unlike the rest of the comments.

Not entirely correct. VLC will not save video out as a .mp4; if you try it will specifically say you must use the .m4v suffix. At least this is what happens on macOS in VLC 3.10. Also, as another tip, you cannot have QuickTime open when you do the conversion; VLC leverages QuickTime to do its converting. This took me a while to figure out as VLC does not warn you of it at all; it simply fails to convert with no error message.

OMG, I hope this works... working on converting a 1hour 9 minute video that was recorded on a dang iPhone, Adobe can't read it... why do people buy these things? Get a camera.

If you use AIX Video Player, which plays all videos brilliantly, there is no need for conversion.

Unfortunately I've had very poor results - it would convert SOME files, and the SOME files it converted would drop the audio track entirely. I CANNOT get it to convert correctly.

VLC-player -> Media -> Convert/Save. Rest is self explanatory.

And where is : the option "YOUTUBE VIDEO HD" instead of the default codex when converting ? I don't see it under profile edition (either the little wrench or the other option).

I get the video without the audio, unless I use this player. You cannot play the mp4 file in any other player but this, otherwise you get the video without the audio...
