711 Here those hard to see dots that used for road lane markers are called Botts' dots. These ceramic dots were developed by Elbert Dysart Botts in 1953 while he was an engineer for the California Department of Transportation and were tested in 1955. His research was shelved in 1962 after he died. In 1964 his dots were rediscovered and in 1966 the Botts' dots replaced the plastic square reflectors. I could not find the year when Nevada first started using Botts' Dots.
