I'm a disabled veteran. Because I was injured and put on a medical category before I received my corporals, I retired medically from the CF after 5 years of service as a private. VAC pays 66 and 2/3 of salary for injured vets. Harper governments realized that the money privates were recieving was not enough to live off of. So, Harper said the lowest pay would be 66 and 2/3 of a corporals pay. That allowed people in my boat to get by, and it was much needed and appreciated. With Trudeau, he promised a 15% increase for ALL disabled vets. This would've alleviated many financial issues for many disabled vets. Considering privates are likely the biggest demographic of disabled vets, it shouldn't have come as a surprise that we wouldn't be getting any real raise. Instead of being clean & giving us our promised raises, they are "demoting" our pay grade, prior to this artificial 15% raise. People have taken to twitter, asking why this is the case, and they have been blocked by the minister of VAC, Kent Hehr, so they cannot contact him.

While privates are being cut out of this raise, keep in mind that the members who were of higher ranks upon their medical release will see massive increases. Some, to the tune of $50, 000 per year or more. Meanwhile, we get about $34, 000 power year, and the Trudeau government laughs because we feel for it and it still APPEARS to be great for veterans.

To Mr. Petter Blindheim, thank you for your service. Great work by CBC and Rex Murphy. I just spoke with several people at the facility to get an update. They indicated that it was totally out of their control and it was being locally reported on by local media. I guess veteran's affairs are to be shamed for this. I have a friend here in Calgary involved with veterans who has mentioned to me how Canada, has to "put their money where their mouth is" when it comes to looking after our war veterans.

Much of the time I find myself disagreeing with Mr. Murphy...but not this time. Give the man the peace that he fought for and needs in his final hours and days. That is the measure of a just and civil society.

It was suggested that he was in the merchant navy and so ineligible for the veterans hospital. It has always troubled me that the merchant navy sailors did not receive the recognition they deserved. They had one of the most dangerous occupations in the war, and got very little recognition. Losses in the North Atlantic during the first half of the last war due to U-Boat attacks were staggering. These men had little to defend themselves, but were carrying absolutely vital supplies to the beleaguered folk in the UK

Failure to provide this hero with the assistance he needs is act of utter stupidity that defines the integrity of our liberal government under the watchful eye of Justin.

Why does people come to our country and give nothing, expect everything and Canada turns its back on this man?

You are right Rex,   like many Canadians, I was appalled by the recent PC government's attitude toward our beloved Veterans.  Liberals wake up, we are watching your treatment of Veterans too, sadly with grave concern for some unethical social decision making.  I will think of this hypocrisy during the Prime Minister's next Remembrance day ceremonies show of gratitude.

Some mid level bureaucrat somewhere made the decision, no one wants to stand up and correct it. Compassion and bureaucracy seldom travel the same roads
