Man this has to be one of if not the best videos you’ve made! Very relatable and essentially brings this industry back down to earth. I’ve been in financial sales/advisory running the entire sales cycle from prospecting, plan/demo presentations and even retention and tech sales act like I’ve never sold and have no experience. In our industry we even need licensures like Series 7, series 66 etc… Sort of comical the fence that is put up by the industry. To your point selling is selling is selling, you can always learn the product.

Lot of good stuff here. Glad I broke in as a full cycle AE. Prospecting is a great skill to have!

Anything with Jake Gyllenhal is great. Prisoner is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Thanks for calling out the LUCK component. I worked at Comcast for many years. So much of that was luck, everyone knew it, but no one ever talked about it or acknowledged it. Especially leadership.

I will raise my hand in agreement that we are all human. And yes I also am insecure, and get jealous of another BDM's success. I try to be more diplomatic about it and think of others on my team when it's the other way around. It's hard to be in a collaborative environment in sales when we are all competing for deals. 💯%!

Completely disagree. I felt my tech background as an SE helped me tremendously when i move to an AE role. I was able to strategize approaches and breakdown complex situation to anchor conversations so much better than non tech sales folks.

How do you go about finding hiring companies that have high-paying commissions?

i disagree with the sdr is the hardest job in sales. Try being an AE in a series A start up. PMF is loosely interpreted in series A companies.... AE in one of those companies is neigh impossible.
