Soren Kierkegaard - Three Spheres of Existence 3 (The Pathetic-Dialectic 1 - Existential Pathos)

This video looks at the first half of what Kierkegaard calls the pathetic-dialectic, existential pathos, or what he also calls Religiousness A. Existential pathos marks a fully religious attitude in which the individual turns inward in order to relate to God (rather than the universal principles of ethics). We also look at suffering and guilt-consciousness which are crucial elements to Religiousness A. The former is essential in the sense that it is a necessary part of Religiousness A, which requires self-annihilation before God, a dying to immediacy, and a coalescing of the infinite with the finite. The latter is also an essential part of being human and in a relationship with God. In truth, we are all guilty; the important thing is to recognise this.

I couldn’t understand the bit about guilt and this is my third time watching it. I love your videos but jeez if Kierkegaard isn’t the easiest hahaha

It's interesting that in trying to secularise K's belief in God we substitute it with another belief that is also necessarily metaphysical...i.e. transcendent ground of being etc..etc..In the end beliefs are always based on a faith into something that is not a pro positional truth but a metaphysical one. Its unavoidable due to Kantian metaphysics. Love your work mate!
