Is prison like OITNB

Most inmates are in state prisons or local jails. Federal camps make up 15% of the federal prison system. Federal prisons in general make up about 8% of the total inmates population. So .. most of us don’t think prison is anything like Oitnb season 1 lol Later seasons … are just VERY unrealistic 🙃

The most realistic part of the whole show is the creepy male guard taking advantage of female prisoners.

Even as someone who loves OITNB its very clear a lot of it is fantasy. There are definitely things that COULD happen like guards being cruel, not caring, making them do or eat things they don't want, sexual relationships, deaths of inmates whether by guards or sickness, etc. But it should be obvious most of it is for TV

I'm soooo glad you are talking truth. I spent 1 month in PRISON (not a JAIL) but it was long enough to experience Raw PRISON life .

All Hollywood stories get sensationalize.

Up in Canada we sometimes refer to camps as "country clubs." There's one in Ontario that's really nice! They live in structures that are almost like chalets. The time there is very easy - we took in a picnic for a friend one time. They're not all like that, but they're def easier than even the minimum facilities.

The one in particular is - or was, things change - populated almost entirely by rich guys on white collar charges. So I'm thinking it was designed when them in mind.

The first two seasons are the only ones that were really based on the book in any way. And they still took a lot of creative freedom with it. Then the show got super popular, and they turned into its own thing. And yeah, Piper and Alex only saw each other for a very short time before their trial.

I have been in “prison” and I have the uttermost respect for you..

“Prison” because I’m Dutch, I had a GameCube, my inmate friend had a Xbox 360

Dutch prison is nothing compared to US prisons..

Guards treat us as equal and inmates respect each other no matter of race/whatever.. We’re all inside and we all just want to do our time

I played COD mw3 with Asians/white/black/whatever color/guards

And I’m proud to say

I beaten them all😂

They literally had guards from other wings come over to our wing to try and our asses


When I got out and I was calling with my friend (who was still in prison) he even passed the phone to one of the guards I knew

She was really happy I was released


It just makes me sad that American prisons are such an inhumane places…

Having your freedom taken away is your punishment

Its not the guards jobs to punish you further


And if you’re ever in a Dutch prison..

Don’t try to assault a guard

There will be more inmates ready to beat your ass up than there’s guards in the prison..


I saw an inmate trying to attack a guard

Other guards had to pull inmates off his ass to prevent him from being beaten to death

I like how they added certain things like trans inmates going in isolation for their terms, and the amount of guard sh and stuff but the scenes were they riot and escape and stuff made me like it a lot less

Kids all over my town are doing stupider shit by the day because they’re freaking bored and OITNB didn’t scare them one bit. And in NY State, you’re basically let out after they take your name and fingerprint you- that’s if the cops think they should come at all of if it’s too much paperwork for the crime. So sad. Anyway, all that to say this short and sweet video really hit home with me! I found your channel about a month ago and I’ve watched almost every single one of your videos! yeah my ex did time at Alderson Federal prison in southern West Virginia and she would hate when people asked her this same question her experience was so bad she has mild ptsd from this place how degrading it was for her and fellow inmates I would go and visit her every chance I could get and worked as many extra shifts as possible so I could put it on her books so she would have it for commissary and when I would go and visit her they would change the rules like every week sometimes when I got there I could hug her give her a kiss and then hold her hand and the next time I couldn't hug her but I could hold her hand the whole time and then one time I could hug her couldn't hold her hand and they were always really rude I remember about kick the s*** out of this guard one time for putting their hands on me like I was one of the prisoners and I was going to show him that I wasn't in the long run I wish I wouldn't have said anything because it just made it harder on her when she had to go back after our visit because they made the strip search and stuff a lot worse for I really felt bad but I really wanted to kick the s*** out of that guard

I watched the entire series of Orange Is the New Black. As a retired correctional officer, so much of what happens in that series was completely nonsensical. One of the biggest issues I had with the series was they had inmates in a federal Prison who had committed no federal crimes. They should have been put in state prison.
