OITNB was originally based on a true story. The real Piper (I forget her real last name) only served 18 months, in a federal prison. But, the series was very popular. So they invented storylines to keep it going. Which is why it got so ridiculous.

Fun fact, pre-transition Sophia is played by Laverne Cox’s twin brother 🥰

the riot wasn’t just for tampons, it was to get justice for poussey who was killed by a co but the warden made it seem like the co was the victim and not poussey. i love this show sm lmao definitely a die hard fan. love your videos too!

What about Lorna being allowed to drive?! I was always so confused why they would allow an inmate to be in control the car with just a CO in the car?

Actually the riot started because taystee found out that they weren't going to say pousseys name in the report. They didn't do it because of tampons that was just a riot demand.

Jessica, you are so correct. I’ve done some prison time. Walking freely around prison isn’t happening. You gotta have reason, you gotta be approved, the you gotta be buzzed/popped thru half a million doors/gates. Love ya girl. My husband has a two years & I have over one year clean. I recently graduated drug court. I would love to hear Reese’s experience through drug court ❤️

Mendoza was an inmate. The guard you're talking about is named Mendez.

I thought the reason that the prisoners are able to walk around the prison and stuff like that was because Litchfield was a private prison. Cause as soon as they were transfered to the other prison after the riot, they werent able to do that anymore.

When you were mentioning how much time they spend alone, unsupervised, remember that they're in minimum security. I was at a minimum security work camp in NV (so it wasn't the feds like in OITNB). It was really small (only 125-150 inmates at max capacity but we usually had about 115). But there were no locked doors (day or night), no barbed wire, no security towers, there was a fence but the door just latched shut, and usually there were only like 3 COs on duty and that's it. The COs would do a walk once an hour but otherwise they usually stayed in the office. On our days off (we worked for NV Dept of Forestry) and after work, we had free reign of the compound from 9am-8pm (or 9am-6pm in the winter). We could go wherever as we pleased. And if you needed to talk to a CO at any time during the night, you'd just go outside walk over to the office and knock on the door. You could go the whole day and only see a CO in passing a couple times. Like, if you wanted to "escape" you could literally just walk away and no one would know you were gone until 11am/6pm count. But you'd obv be really dumb to escape since if/when you're eventually caught, you're going straight back to the main prison.

I thought the ICE stuff was so intense and upsetting even to watch so I can’t imagine going through it. I’m glad they tried to raise awareness of what’s going on. If anyone has any petitions or go fund me pages to share please do I would like to check them out

LOVED this video. I watched OITNB religiously until the season where the inmates took over the prison -- it got way too fake and I was over it.

I ended up really attached to Tiffany.

Her growth was amazing and I loved her friendship with Suzanne.

Tiffany’s story was so heartbreaking and her ending had me in tears.

When she pulled her hoodie up and walked out waving over her shoulder, I just sobbed. 😢

Flaca was my fav character on the show.

I stopped watching after the riot season because things just became too ridiculous. But the first couple seasons were really entertaining.

My husband did time in a MD state prison w/ a pre-op MTF Trans woman. She had voice feminization, a tracheal shave, breast implants & had been on estrogen/progesterone for years (although the state cut them off while she was locked up), but since she was pre-op, they stuck her in gen pop in a MALE prison(!!!). Apparently she survived but I can't even imagine how horrible & terrifying that must have been, for her. What a terribly broken system. 🤦‍♀️
