The Different 'Styles' In Traditional Flamenco Cante - What are they? Why are they so important?
Показать описание
What we call "styles" in Flamenco are very specific things. They are the core of cante, and all the interaction and improvisation between cante, dance and guitar has to do with them. You've probably heard names like la “malagueña de Chacon” la Soleá de la Serneta, los Tangos de Titi, la siguiriya de Manuel Molina.
What exactly do these names refer to? To artists of course, these are the names of the artists who created, re-created and developed these styles. But concretely we refer to small pieces of cante.
A style is multidimensional, so I'm going to explain the 3 dimensions of a style:
- The Melody
- The Library of Lyrics
- The Processing
A deep knowledge of a style is what allows us all to play, sing, dance together, respecting the rules of the traditional flamenco game for which we do not need rehearse. This is the only way to be able to anticipate the caídas del cante and to "rematar" correctly, to really interact and improvise. The style tells us that there will be different possible paths and while performing live, we will have to provoke or react to these options.
