Gentleman's Gazette
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
00:00 Introduction

First of all, one of the reasons we love classic men's style is that it's just that -- classic. Now, classic, when refers to clothes, typically means a garment or design of an elegant style that is not greatly subject to changes in fashion. About three times a week we get asked if there is a Lady's Gazette, why we are not having one, and if we can point people in the right direction, and why we are not covering women's topic in the first place. Unfortunately, we can't and won't venture to oblige to you.

00:54 1. It's simply not our realm of expertise.
05:09 2. There was no true "golden era" of women's fashion.
06:20 3. Women's trends are generally more extreme than men's trends.
08:27 4. Today, women have a much broader and more varied wardrobe than they used to.
09:20 5. The average quality of womenswear is lower than that of menswear.

If anyone is paying attention, Raphael is literally giving a blueprint to start a successful Ladies Gazette channel.

I never expected GG to create a ladies channel, but hoped for a women's channel w/similar information, style and integrity. Now I know why! Sadly our clothes weren't made well enough to withstand the test of time. Even allowing for the fashion swings, there are still classic women's styles that can be worn today without looking like a costume. Justine's channel is a wonderful resource for current fashion! She speaks to quality, classic style & sustainability, which if our clothes had from the getgo, I've no doubt there would be a Ladie's Gazette! Absolutely love your channel and applaud you for taking the time to speak to so many of your female fans. Congratulations Preston on your recent marriage, I hope it's as enduring and beautiful as the fashion you represent.

Thanks for the mention and for your generosity!
I believe both of our channels are about tailoring and shoe making & how wearing handmade items can create emotion.
I started wearing handcrafted classic clothing/shoes in order to know my subject. However, as a woman in business, it's been a shock to see how adopting quality classic style has helped me move forward, and made it easier to keep up with the guys (literally, when walking in my oxfords, instead of wobbling around in high heels on the cobbled streets of Europe). Cheers ! ~Sonya

Ugh a *Lady's Gazette* would be amazing😍 but women's style is an entirely different ball game, but luckily there are people who speak on this!

Don't feel like you need to talk about women's style and clothing!! Literally your channel is about menswear and that's what we are here for. Despite that some of your videos have been very helpful for me personally (especially your color theory video) and I make better choices when picking outfits for my dad and I feel so proud when my boyfriend gets complimented on the shirt that I chose for him!

Signed,
A 19yo female viewer who's been watching you since age 14-15. ☺️❤️ Love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩

Almost all of the Gentleman's Gazette information can be applied to women. Some of us like to wear suits and follow the "men's" fashion rules too!

I get it, but I wish there were a channel like this for women. Women’s fashion is varied because it follows trends, but there are classic staples in women’s fashion.

I'm quite glad the Gentleman's Gazette decided to acknowledge and articulate their stance on this subject. I hope your video essay inspires people who would like to take your points as a launch pad into identifying what would define classic women's style. Great video! Never thought to ask this particular question but it is nonetheless a good one to have and answer because your channel is an excellent source of educational material for men so I do see why those interested in women's wear would seek your editorial approach and techniques.

I like womans fashion from 1940's, especially those hats and turbans

i think it's great how you focus on menswear, since every time i research about fashion it's basically centered on women's fashion so more information on men's fashion is really welcome

I adore Rachek Maksy and The Closet Historian. As a man, I always enjoy their videos because I can always learn domething about classic womens clothing which is as amazing and beautiful (maybe even more so than) classic menswear.

I think that’s something that many women would like to address. Some women really hate the way that “classic” is this often referred to moving target in women’s wear, difficult to define and even harder to hit. Every woman needs to navigate the expectations of how they’ll be perceived - we literally aren’t able to just put clothes on for work, for example, without taking every detail of social context into account. Do I look too aggressive? Am I sending the wrong message wearing a this knee length skirt? Do I look too soft? Too feminine? Too masculine? What color will the people in this meeting pay attention to, but not too much attention, but also not too little attention? Can I wear this again so soon? Women get a lot of conflicting messages about their clothes. (If a woman is already in a position where they don’t need to think about it, they’re honestly lucky.)
I’ve been researching tailoring to make myself a properly tailored jacket, I’ve been preparing to slow down and do a lot of the work by hand, and it’s like at some point someone arbitrarily made this decision that women’s blazers should just have less structure. One book I got my hands on even suggested that the amount of structure common in men’s suiting is “unflattering” on a woman. It’s a pain. Women want well-constructed clothing that lasts, too, it’s just an exceptionally difficult thing to find. I’ve only even begun to nail down my own definition of classic by making my own clothes.
Anyway, I landed on this channel because I have a general interest in tailoring, and I have no problem with these videos sticking to menswear as they’ve been interesting and informative on that front.

I've thought about this many times, and my thoughts match your's. Another topic that might be covered by this channel, what styles in women's clothing best pair with men's classic styles? Maybe, 10 women's outfits that looks great when paired with a man wearing classic style.

I agree ☝🏻 Women styles are too varied. I enjoy your videos because I sew 🧵 for a multitude of people. I find it informative and educational. No doubt, men’s classic fashion is historical.

Thank you for addressing this! I've been very interested and inspired by this channel since March of 2020 and have always been quite frustrated by the thought of not being able to incorporate elements of classic men's fashion into my wardrobe simply because I am a woman. I'm also happy to see that I'm not the only one here who feels this way, it's a very freeing feeling! Keep up the good work! ♡

Women's sense of fashion is just too broad to categorize. Every piece of clothing/accessories is an endless mix and match, whereas men's has this kind of common ground
