The thing I find funny about parent is when we don’t listen to them we’re being disrespectful, lmao respect and obedience are two different terms!

I'll listen whenever words comes from the heart and not the ego. My dad was out of the ordinary super connected to his spirituality and wanted the best for me not a projection. My mom instead quite the opposite... Super wounded and controling .. trying to decide for me all the time and competing. I decided to not take it personally at all and at the same time respect it and move on 💞

Parents do want what is best but they can't control you. Yes, they can speak their advice and some are good but you can't respect everything they say especially if it is ridiculous, wrong, and nonsensical. Also, they can't force you to take their advice and live your life for them. You only know what's best for yourself and you need to make decisions for yourself. Parents are human too and they don't know everything. Just because they are older, it doesn't mean you need to listen to everything they say especially if what they saying is out of line.

I wish I didn’t listen to my mum when she discouraged me from getting serious with my boyfriend in college. He had just graduated and I was a second semester freshman. He was in med school, he wanted to get married within a year of dating. My mum vehemently said no I should finish studying and worry about a relationship when I’m done. Well… I can confidently say he was the best man I’ve ever dated and I’m 28 now, single and feel like I missed out on amazing man. 😞
