I think another reason one should learn to play the piano is there is close to close to Infinity of repertoire for the piano. You can never run out of music to learn and play on the piano.

My reasons for taking up the piano are: 1) I've always wanted to  2) My job is heavy on numbers, graphs, distances etc - learning to play the piano feels like it balances me  3) Being single has its benefits but I sometimes feel the need for a streak of beauty in my life and learning music accomplishes that.

having a grand steinway in my home would be the greatest testment to being rich, even tough i wont be, but, hey, its like having a rools royce made in 1850, a piece of art, or a picasso or an autographed pict with Chaplin... something along those lines, but seriosly...playing the piano is an entrance to a world of beauty, allowing one to lose him/herself to what nietszche described as 'the proper task of life'

Gray matter is brain tissue made mostly out of neuronal cell bodies (neurons are the main brain cells responsible for most of our thought processes). White matter is made out of the neuron's axons (thin wiry part of the neuron). The axons are wrapped in microscopic fatty sheath. If you've ever looked at fat in a piece of meat you'd notice it's white, which is why "white matter" looks white.

I have been watching YouTube piano lesson videos for a couple years and this series, by this lady, is the best. First, her style is engaging. Secondly, she provides a complete library of support information (music eras, etc.). Lastly, I believe a person with a passion for mastering the piano can do it with her instructions. Best of luck to all of us who want to contribute to the world of music.

I subscribed to piano-play-it to try to learn piano, but I have been a bad student, I didn't study, that's all.

Now I am getting older, I mean I will be 60. However some people in my family lived to be more than a hundred. So I have time to learn a few songs before I die.

I had a brain accident and my recent memory started to fail me. So I got this idea of learning how to read scores, I have some curiosity on music theory, and I decided to start again to study piano.

I feel I am advancing in a very low pace, but I am advancing.

I don't to be like the elderly lady yelling at the kids. I want to remember things.

Yes, it is fun. And I think it will get better when I start to play my first songs. The first score I downloaded was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and it was wrong.

Next I wanted a score of The Pink Panther Theme, but one on which the right hand plays a chromatic scale and you mimick the saxophone on the piano. This score is at the site greatscores and it's not for free.

I am enjoying it. Better later than never.

I hope you have words to encourage older people to start or to resume.

Your cat is very pretty. I have two, Pinky and Emma. They can not get that fat, for they move a lot.

I never went to the piano to study yet, but I am sure they will both walk on the keyboard while I try some scales and fingering.

Another reason to learn the piano is that when you're trying out for a band that's looking for a keyboardist means you'll have less competition unlike the guitar where you're essentially dime a dozen.
