Jeez, so much work here to put this together (thanks Leo!!!). The other variable which would have been interesting to see is what all this means for non-monolithic chips. Though you could also run the argument that if you've got a non-monolithic chip, then max performance gaming isn't your priority.

I've barely started the video, and I can't remember the last time I commented before finishing a video, but... that list of test configurations is unbelievably impressive! Hats off for all that work, the diligence is truly inspiring.

VBS uses the virtualisation features on your CPU to isolate processes from each other, the process / program will run with its own user space including its own os and then interface with the hypervisor rather than a more traditional kernel. This provides some level of protection from a bad actor program (malware) reaching into the memory allocated to the Chrome tab that has your Internet banking open. The hypervisor is built on hyper-v.
There are all sorts of buffer overflows that someone with ill intent could use to get into places they shouldn’t. If you are a developer you’ll most likely want it on as stuff like WSL2 and Docker rely on Hyper-V

This is a great video. Thank you for your time. I will not be updating to windows 11. Ten is perfectly fine for me and see no reason to keep buying a new operating system every few years.

Really appreciate the extra effort and detail going into these tests.

Happy to stay on Windows 10 for now.

Microsoft really are making this a daily updating landscape. So difficult to keep track of what the heck they are playing at. Windows 10 FTW !

Holy God in heaven can there be more variables? On top of all this, Windows seems to dramatically alter performance with power profiles as well.

Thanks to youtubers like you Leo, I am not sure what microsoft is doing here, instead of focusing on fixing these issues they are focusing on copilot and other AI features which noone really cares about.

Thanks Leo, some good data in that - so many things that seem weird to me, Windows 10 was quite solid based on years of using it and seeing stable results in many areas, Windows 11 feels beta

Leo ages like fine wine. Tah very much, particularly for the generation spread.

This actually makes a lot of sense to me. Zen 4 was architecturally built with core isolation (security) in mind but I'd guess windows scheduler is still a little clumsy. The reason the X3D seem to take it better is because the cache allows the scheduler some breathing room. At least that's what I think from looking at the data.

According to my Google-fu, Windows 10 has more than twice the market share of Windows 11: 66% vs 30%. You should definitely continue testing on Windows 10.

I'd go back to Windows 10 in a heartbeat if it had decent HDR support. HDR is the singular reason why I'm daily driving w11 on my desktop.

Wow, this is pretty comprehensive Leo. Thanks for all the time you put in this. It looks like win10 is still as good or better for zen3 so that's where I'll stay.

Great effort in making that video! My main point in it is the FC6 test that is the one showing off more than most games the raw CPU power. MS has made a big mess with Win11 for years now without any excuse.

Epic effort, thanks for this, really appreciate the effort you put in, as this must have taken ages!

This is why so many gamers are going back to Windows 10 Hardware Unboxed showed some data last week seeming to show gamers are scrapping 11 and going back to 10
