Fortnite Ends Battle Pass Exclusivity, But...

It's been nearly a month since Fortnite announced that Battle Passes will no longer be exclusive, with items being available in the shop 18 months after a season ends. This only applies to future Battle Passes however, leaving everyone to speculate whether or not this will apply to the older ones at some point in the future. Fortnite's silence regarding this makes us question what they're cooking behind the scenes. In this video, I discuss this topic in more detail, considering both sides of the argument.

The solution is to do it how Dead by Daylight does it: old passes, in their entirety, are available to purchase and grind out. The catch is that you can only progress through one pass at a time. Meaning, If someone hypothetically bought an old season’s battle pass right now as well as the current one, they’d have to grind both out separately. This is a win for epic because it means more playtime/engagement, etc. They could also price each of the older passes at 5, 000 V-Bucks, so their new cost reflects the value of what you’re getting a little better.

So overall this:
1. teaches players to still play right now so they won’t have to pay 5x as much for the same pass in future
2. gives fortnite good engagement as players potentially grind out several passes in a single season
3. establishes a barrier of inconvenience that keeps the items from feeling too “free”, in that they cost more and take way more time to get
4. If they really wanted to twist the knife they could make old battle passes locked behind fortnite crew, and have the bonus rewards and quest rewards locked behind additional months like the bonus skin styles currently are.

The Halo Infinite approach would be the best option. Every Battle Pass is always available for you to purchase, so if you bought a BP you didn't finish in the season, you could continue leveling it up and getting the rewards or buy the BP of a season you didn't play in and still get everything

I just started playing this game in Chapter 5 Season 3, and since now I watch videos and keep up with the game, I learned that Solid Snake was in the game but now I can't get him 😭

And any time I get hit with the "should've played back then" argument, it really frustrates me cause how could I have known back then when I didn't even follow this game and wasn't interested at the time? And other than just that, there's a MILLION reasons why someone wouldn't have been playing the game at the time. Age, income, not interested at the time, other life obligations/complications, etc.

6:50 right there too... i was there for the nexus war season but i was much younger and didnt have a job yet. now i'll never have my favorite x-men characters like Mystique and Storm, even though NOW i have a job and would be totally willing to pay extra bundle prices for each. it's just such an unfair antiquated system.

In my opinion, I say they should just release every skin in the item shop, at the end of the day, they are pixels, and epic can shut down Fortnite anytime, then what, if they bring back any exclusive skins, just give them OG edit styles so that way, the original owners can show that they had it exclusive in the first place, and besides it’s just a game, let everyone play with any skin they want 🤙🏾

They should just let you buy the Battle Passes from seasons you've played.
If you played at all during a season, you can purchase the BP from that season, that way, there is less FOMO, but the BP is still somewhat exclusive.

They should just do the same thing they did when Skulltrooper came back to the shop in ch1 s6 and the OGs got a recolor style option exclusive to them and everyone else just got the old variant. The OGs get new styles and the new customers get only the old version.

This is honestly a good change and make it so other players that didn't play that season or didn't have the money for it they can just buy it in the item shop full price. I had the Season 4 Chapter 1 Battle Pass and only made it to Zoey because i didn't know how to do challenges back then and never completed it, which still breaks me, even tho its not a big deal but that FOMO just gets annoying sometimes or even now, and missed others like Chapter 2 Season 4 (Marvel Season) the reason i didn't buy it because i was taking a huge break from Fortnite and didn't had enough time to play that season so its gone. And another solution they should do for the players that own BP and Exclusive stuff originally is just give them an OG style for a character and OG items (Pickaxe, Glider, Emote, etc.) at the end of the day, its a video game and virtual so its not a big deal if they just release every single item (Original Battle Passes) for every player to enjoy.

FN should do it like Brawlhalla. After the season ends you can still finish the pass with the XP being split between the current one and the previous one

This was just a thing i was just talking about with my friends, why even lock it when your ending exclusivity, even if they said they aren’t opening the Old BP’s, they could just make an alternative reskin that is available in the item shop of for People who bought it during its prime (Paradigm or Skull Trooper for example) if they want to stick to their word, they at least need to make an alternative version of the skin that can be Purchased by the masses, they’re are so many BP skins yet they provide skins to the ones that are popular than to some who are in the minority

6 - 7 of The Seven members haven’t had a Item Shop Variant that people can purchase at all (I am not counting Paradigm 2.0 as she was a BP Exclusive)

Most of my favourite skins like Remedy, Sentinel, or even the Visitor, haven’t had Reskins since their Creation that aren’t available for the masses, yet they would sink time and effort into another Dummy, another Ruby, another Cuddle Team Leader or Another Peely (and I’ve heard that the Amount of Peely’s in the game can make 2 Full Battle Passes) or now another Collab skin

There are alot of BP Skins that people are fans of and would love a reskin to, but epic Doesn’t seem to care

I know these are pixels on a Screen but they should at least do the bare minimum to at least give fans of the skins some sort of chance to get those skins if the main ones are locked up, i do understand that Reskins don’t really feel the same, but this feels like the only way it can work sadly, and this is epic’s fault for even implementing this Greedy Tactic in the first place

heck this issue is also why Account hacking on Fortnite is scary because you essentially lose all of your skins you paid money for, and if the account is gone, its gone

I don’t like this situation as much as some others, but until they can find a better solution, this is the only option on the table.

A trading or transfer system would be a good way for epic to not exactly bring back the old skins but give the newer players a way to get a skin that they missed out on.

They prob never thought this game would be this big for this long there has been so many BP now to not ever have deadpool, midas, dr strange Ect to ever be available again seems crazy it was inevitable the longer this game goes on old skins would come back my thoughts aas someone who played since the beginning I dont care if they released OG BP skins if they give us OGs a extra color option for being OG cool! If not whatever gatekeeping skins always seemed dumb I missed ch2 s6 and Raven is my fav DC character so if I can finally get her that would be so sick!! Hope this happens it was going to anyway just hooe they do it in a way thata fair

I think the most realistic answer epic will do with older passes is if you played during those seasons you should be able to get the battle passes when you played outside of the collab skins, in which they should be in the shop, and I don't think anyone would mind (fortnite OG passes imo should be always available for players so they have a version of highly loved Battlepass skins) it makes people who played before and after happy without effecting the rarity of the skins, Me personally have been playing since the pre-season and never could buy any of the passes until season 5, and I wish I wasn't broke enough to not buy seasons 2 - 4's passes but I missed out (before anyone says anything, the season shop was lowkey mid besides the pickaxe, people only like the skins cus they're rare)

Personally I think what Epic can do is re-release older passes in a dedicated shop section which would allow people to choose what previous battle pass they want to complete along with the current season, and once they finish that specific battle pass they can choose another to complete from the item shop section. They could keep the current progression system and give battle stars for both passes each players level up, for example you could get 5 battle stars for the current pass and the older pass you have selected. Also, they could make it that you have as much time as you need to complete the older BP, for example if you bought an older one mid season and don't finish it before the season ends, it will not expire and you can take as long as you need. For the original owners they could release an exclusive style or something like that. Honestly, the chances of this idea happening are slim, and I don't really believe it will, but it is an interesting idea I was thinking about and wanted to put it out there.

We should let epic games know we want old bps to come back

I recently watched a video on battle passes in Fortnite and how the skins should be available at a later date, and passes were never advertised as exclusive, nor was it stated anywhere in the agreements or in the battle pass screen that battle pass skins were exclusive and would never come back. Players just had an assumption they were going to be exclusive. Epic can absolutely add battle passes skins season to and onward, it’s just a matter of if and when they will do it

My solution is to do it this way:

The Battle Pass can be progressed as normal, but all old Battle Passes can be claimed in a Shop tab for the same price after the season ends.
You can use Reload's Daily Challenges to unlock OG Battle Stars for your old Battle Passes.
This will also count towards stuff like Omega's lights and that, if you couldn't get those back in Season 4. (They'll be treated like how the current Super Styles are.)

My reasoning behind this is that players can start playing long after these Battle Passes arrive, Apple players missed out on 2 and a half chapters, and it would bring way more playtime and a bigger incentive to playing Reload.

As for secret skin, Fortbyte, loading screen and XP challenges, I believe they can be replaced by using OG Battle Stars to unlock the skins.

Even as someone who would want old battle pass skins from chapter 1
I do not want all exclusivity to end. I got over missing out on the original peely and other skins years ago. If all exclusivity would end many people would just quit the game, I personally wouldn’t but it would cause a massive controversy. It’s not smart to do that since the community already hates itself.

One way they could make older skins accessible would be like Dauntless's vault system, where completing certain Battle Pass exclusive (or not) quests gives you an exclusive currency to spend on cosmetics from previous passes in a new section of the store with the daily change system the old store used.

I left the game after Chapter 1, and came back after learning that ZB had been introduced (about a year late in chapter 4) meaning I missed A LOT. I completely understand that these passes were advertised as exclusive, and I doubt Epic will ever bring them back because of this. But if I had it my way, Fortnite Crew members would be given the opportunity to buy any of the old passes (one at a time) which they would have to grind as usual to unlock. Again, I know this won't happen, but it's how I would do it if I could.
