I love Luffy's deadpan responses to these emotional ass scenes. He does it all the time. It's funny but as the same time real af bc in real life that's exactly how you want to act in those emotional situations - not emotional and in control

This really was the big, character defining moment for Luffy. Till now, all it was was talk, really. He always said that he would stick with his friends, but he was always goofy. Here, there was no joke, no sillyness. It was just Luffy proving that he listened, that he doesnt really understand, but that none of that matters. All Nami had to do was ask. All ANY of his friends have to do is ask.

This was the point where Luffy proved that he cared more about his crew, than his goal.

I prefer the original old version of the scene when Luffy puts his hat on hear head, for some reason that animation makes the moment look like more tender and sweet. In this one he just shoves his hat on her head.

Arlong is a pretty underrated villain within the One Piece community. He was Oda's prototype foundation of what currently stands as One Piece's conspiracy founded World Government. Who openly showcase acts of cruelty and oppression by entitled Celestial Royals. Nami's shattered self-loath here towards Arlong's mark can resonate how every slave in One Piece feels about being branded as Celestial property. Even Arlong! Because I know it's not confirmed, but given how the story has shaped up. I wouldn't be surprised if Oda has kept post defeat footage of him as flashbacks. Because he plans to show/reveal us he's back in Mary Geoise as a slave. To highlight the projected parallels he was casting on Nami's villagers.
