Okay so there are two reason why Junko had that look before she was crushed:
1. She got bored of her own execution like her personality, life, and everything else. Even with feeling despair of all her previous classmates and imagining what they must have gone through wasn’t enough and she didn’t die in despair.
2. The detention block paused for a moment so she must have been confused on why it wasn’t crushing her. She wanted to get it over with so she feel despair and it was late.

People in these comments are wrong. Junko WANTED to die she said it many times. She wanted to die an ultimate despair death. But at the last second the “detention” punishment seemed to halt, just like in Makoto’s. So she looked up in confusion wondering if the same thing was going to happen to her. Instead of dying in despair like she wanted, she died in confusion and surprise.

I think that some people believe that Junko hesitated before she died, or like regretted her decision, but I personally think that her execution truly made her feel despair. She stopped smiling because the machine didn’t come down fast enough and she got bored. She truly loves despair and wanted to die feeling it, but TRULY felt despair by not even dying the way she wanted. She died bored. Like how when Celestia died. Celestia wanted to die in a unique way, by getting burned on the steak. And she WAS going to, happy that she got to go out in her own way, but then the fire truck hit her. Car crashes/accidents are one of the most common ways people die. But thats made her feel true despair at death. That’s what i think so yeah🤠

Junko actually thought she wasn't going to die. Look at how happy she is during the execution, and right in the end her eyes look a little confused...And also in Danganronpa 2 Junko said "I ended up dying last time, " "I didn't mean to go that fast", maybe Junko didn't wanna die? That is just my theory. And if you reply, don't spoil Danganronpa v3 pls.
