41.22 Drop in Kill Switch

Adding a simple Kill Switch could make the difference between a car thief making off with your ride or not. Kill switches work by preventing auto thieves from starting your car or truck even if they use tricks like relay hacking or keyfob cloning.

The problem is that most people do not want to cut into their factory wiring to install a traditional Kill Switch; which could be a daunting task for sure.

Even better are magnetic kill switches. You can hide it in the headliner. Just pop a small magnet on it to complete the circuit.

Back in the day I had a VW beetle that you could basically start with a screwdriver. Used to pop the distributor cap and take the rotor arm with me when I left it anywhere.

I have 2 anti-theft devices:
1. It's a manual car
2. The ignition lock is broken and needs a highly specific action to make it work.

A N.J. Cop once told me how he keeps his car from being stolen .
He has TWO Separate kill Switches in Two different locations on the car .
A thief may find one and keep trying to start it but if the fuel is still cut off, he will just run the battery down .
He also said if they REALLY want your car, theyll just show up with a tow truck or flat bed and just grab it .

My 91 Cavalier - pulled the fuel pump fuse (by my left knee) and put it in the leather key fob … best anti theft ever.

I'm a mechanic and this will be a nightmare for the average user, you need to pass the wire through the seal on the firewall where the harness passes and fish it under the dash.
Easiest way but not possible on all the vehicles is to cut it through the interior fuse box for any ECU B line (not stand by) that gives power to the ECU when the key is turned, you make a dummy fuse to plug in with some wiring, another real fuse in series with a fuse socket, and a switch, all of the same ampacity as the original fuse and then hide it somewhere.
Might have side effects on some vehicles but works wonders on 90's cars like Corollas and Hyundais.

In 1974 I made a alarm out of a radio shack relay and toggle switch and attached them to the door light switch. When the door was opened and the yoggle switch was in to on position, the horn would come on and stay on until the toggle switch was turned off. I hid the toggle switch in the grill.

I cut up a starter relay and made my own around two years ago. It works great and is easy to remove if needed.

I never did that or use a kill switch. I just pull the master rely and call it a night. When I wanted to drive it. I just go plug the rely. That rely saved me from waking up and not seeing my car on so many times.
