Here's a quick review of the OLFA X design cutters - their premium line of snap-off blade cutters. I've been using these for a few months now, and here are my thoughts and opinions about them.

The utility knives reviewed in this video are the 9 mm Olfa XA-1 and the 25 mm Olfa XH-AL.

The spring that you said it serves no purpose, is actually how the locking mechanism works on these knives. When you push the spring, it releases the blade from the lock position (unlock), to be able to move forward.The same way it works for retracting the blade, since it locks in both positions in the same time, to provide stable and safe cuts, as close as it gets to a fixed blade. Rubber isn't there for the looks either, it provides a safer non slip grip.

the rubber is supposed to enhance the grip when your hands are sweaty, or working under wet environment rather than "looks cool". I guess you are living in dry, cold area where the rubber doesn't shine in your use case.
