Will never make this mistake again after selling my 2080ti. That card would still be serving me well into 4000 series and beyond for the games I play. You must resist the urge to have the latest and greatest in this hobby and the fomo. You will be flushing money away.

He already has 3080ti, he'll be perfectly fine with that, it doesnt turn into shit when 40 series launches.

Learned my lesson, sold my 1080Ti SLI setup for $680 right before 30 series launched, RIP 😂

I’m of the firm belief that if you have enough cores to run your games and then extra cores for your background tasks, you should be fine and won’t see a huge dip in performance, that keeping in mind that you should also have enough RAM for it not to eat into that of the game you’re playing. The windows scheduler in Win10 should prioritize your fastest cores towards more demanding tasks and therefore you’d likely have little to no performance loss over a clean bench. If a game utilizes 4 cores or even 8 and you have a 12 core CPU, you have the headroom to run things in the background, given you are running a reasonable amount of RAM 32GB or greater with tasks like Chrome, Synapse, iCue, GHub, CAM, Afterburner, Game launchers, so on and so forth.

Point being, if you have the headroom, your GPU performance will NOT be limited by the rest of your system balancing background tasks.

Feels like yesterday when Tech and Rogue were reading leaks and rumors on the 30 series and now we're just a few months away from the 40 series.

Everyone is talking about cards, and I’m over here thinking about how tech is glowing with that facial hair LOL

As a 3090 holder I stress this thustly. Do not sell your 3080 ti that is the dumbest thing you can do. Going one generation up you will notice no difference from the 30 series. Always wait 2 or more years before considering an upgrade. Depending on your resolution you can have the 3080 TI forever. Don’t do it isn’t worth it. My 1440p monitor will be driving a 3090 for at least 2-3 more years. Also you aren't guaranteed to get one. Did we not learn from the chip shortages?

Benchmark is the same as mpg from car manufacturers. It is only achievable in a controlled setting.

I'm going to buy a 30 series now cuz I couldn't get one all this time and my 20 series card and still doing great also it's more likely that regular consumers won't even be able to get a 40 series card anyways

The other thing is that your 3080 does not get slower when the 4080 come out.

Just got a 3060ti (replacing a 980) for $640 (fairly reasonable) and I intend to hold on to that baby until I see what the future of 40 series holds. In the mean time, I'm golden for a while.

Which do you feel is better going forward. All performance cores with multithread or E cores in place of... thinking of the future. energy usage not withstanding... thinking of the differance in performance of those background tasks in relation to how well the cpu completes those tasks or how much it can bog things down performance wise.

I made the mistake of giving away my old Radeon R7 just before the GPU crunch. No, I plan on keeping my 3090s at least until I replace them. Also, the 4000 series power requirement is looking to be ridiculous.

I was one of those that baught a used 2080ti at $500 😁

Bought a 3080 12gb, selling my 3070 to a friend for $600 to cover most of the cost. Wanted a 3080 since launch. Plan on skipping 4000 as power requirements and availability .are my major concerns
