Should You Upload Videos as PRIVATE or UNLISTED?

Should you upload your YouTube videos as Private or Unlisted? There are pros and cons to each. Let me break those down quickly for you.

My heart just sank when I saw my unlisted video that I was waiting to post had comments. Low and behold… I had it on a playlist. Thanks for the info.

I have always uploaded my videos unlisted and added them to a playlist until I got a comment on my unlisted video. I didn't know how they were able to comment until I realized it was from my playlist. I still keep them unlisted but don't add the playlists until I am ready for it to go public. I will upload to private next time. Thanks for the tip.

I don't like that scheduled videos switch to private until they release. I'd like to schedule a release but give early access to my patrons via a link but I can't. My pet peeve.

Great video Daniel, definitely need to start pinning comments and then schedule.
On my other channel I have 3 videos scheduled every day for the past 3 weeks and I haven't done that, so when they go live there's no comments usually till I watch and pin my comment. Will be implementing this tip, Thanks!

I really enjoy your content 😊 But quick question about an old rumor: If I upload a video and leave it as private (without scheduling it) for over a month, then I make it public (or schedule to be public), will the YT algo treat it the same as a “fresh” upload that was scheduled on the same day? I just want to make sure my video won’t be penalized because it was sitting in the Studio for so long before being public. I’m trying to batch record and edit more, so I was planning on uploading videos and leaving them there until I know the date to make it public according to my content calendar, but this doubt has always lingered in the back of my head 😅 I would appreciate your input on this one. TIA

Just uploaded a short in private and made it public later, noticed much better results as of it being recommended as compared to the normal direct public style . I mean is there any secret sauce about the YT algo we arent being told 🤔 if so hell yeah iam gonna upload all my videos as private and make them public later

It was not easy to find comments on this subject so thank you for all those insights. I'm still left wondering though about whether there are any cons to uploading your video as unlisted first so you can share with your support base and perhaps get some likes and comments happening, BEFORE making it public. Does this affect the way your video is promoted through the algorithm?

I also upload in private and do the same thing with the unlisted pinned commend. 99% of the time I'm sleeping when my video publishes.

This is good! So, when I 'schedule' my videos a week or two or more ahead, they are private. Should I just leave them as 'unlisted' and then schedule them the day before the release time? 🤔

One way I use this is to make it private or unlisted until the HD version is fully processed.
That way people aren't watching it in 360p...

I am in Virginia. I live in an apartment complex where tenants are parking in my space and refusing to move. So as proof I record it. Yahoo email will not upload large videos so I upload them to Youtube on the Privacy setting to show the landlord. No one else can see them. Then I remove them. Now she said she wants me to move out for recording other tenants and uploading it on Youtube. She simply wants me gone. Can she do that?
