It makes me sad to see how drug addiction is still weaponized as a character issue. We don’t tell overweight people who develop diabetes and heart conditions they have poor character. And yet it is the same thing: a harmful behavior people use to feel better.

George Bush I's granddaughter is a drug addict and he knew about it. Jeb's daughter drug addiction problem became publicized in the 1990s. Interestingly for her it was treated as an illness, rather a crime.

Convenient timing for Hunter wasn't it? None of these historical instances are even remotely close to the drugs recently found in the west wing. And hunter may have "written" a book documenting his addiction but he's never once stayed in treatment nor been faced with legal issues like the rest of us have to. A bad apple from a bad bushel. Not to mention Brandon's zero tolerance drug stance from when he was riding someone else's coat tails to the top
