As part of new federal policy, every weekday Homeland Security buses pick up asylum seekers at the border and bring them from the San Ysidro crossing to the immigration court in downtown San Diego. There's an unprecedented caseload, right now. Nationally, there are more than 930,000 cases pending in immigration courts. There are fewer than 500 judges to hear all of them. With the current levels, judges are being sent from non-border courts to places like San Diego and beyond to try and tackle the burden the border courts are facing. As they tackle the backlog there, the home courts face increasing backlogs as well. Get the full story in the video above.
