Wait, aren't we all coming to SciShow for relationship advice ?

I'm going to go ahead and say that the anglerfish is a great example of sexual monogamy... but that's mostly because he gets absorbed into the female and then dissolved down to just a pair of gonads.

I wish Hank Green was my science teacher. The Khan Academy biology videos made me fall so in love with biology.

This was great! I enjoyed it immensely:) I like that you acknowledged that a lot of what we do isn't natural, It's kind of one of my favorite things when people are like "(insert perceived abomination here) isn't natural"  and then I'm like, neither are shoes and cars but I don't see you walking to work barefoot.

There is also a monogamy gene, I remember learning about it in one of my university psych courses. Although it has been quite some time since then and it would be buried somewhere deep in my notes.

From what I remember, certain animals like a species of Vole have it and mate for life. Humans can have somewhere between 0 and 4 of this gene and depending on the number of of them that they have, it correlates to the longevity of marriage and the likelihood of divorce. Like I said I do not have the citation, nor do I wish to look it up but if you are curious I bet you can find it somewhere online.

This is a cool video. I think I'll send it to both my girlfriends. And the guy I'm flirting with.

You should have mentioned that monogamy in massive populations (I.E. humans) is beneficial, as it drastically reduces the spread of STIs (STDS) and other diseases.

Pretty sure being poly is like 500x harder. You basically have to not only be friends with a group of people but love them all equally and tolerate them as much as a singular couple. Not to mention having multiple people rear a child is super difficult.

Love the fact that you guys include citations. Really helps with referencing for assignments and gives proper credit to researchers.
