The Seiko 5 is a great entry-level watch, but at what cost?

It's your money, spend it how you want. Just my opinion, of course.

Thank you for addressing this. They are way too overpriced for what they are now.

90s seiko fives have recently dropped in market price and there are still plenty of them in great condition or refurbished around and they are commonly under 100

About 1 year ago I bought a Seiko 5 7009, refurbished, for about $40. Now I can only DREAM of getting it for 50 or 60

Its just supply and demand like rolex watches but at a lower scale. Older discontinued watches that are rarer to find will always have sentimental value

Been looking for vintage watch, I seen Seiko in flea market, beat up condition, and some good condition, all priced hundreds of dollars. Seiko really went up in value.

I bought the Orient flight 2 with the leather strap for 110 usd. It's a great automatic watch for the price.

I bought an snxs79 back in April for around 200 dollars. It was the only one I could find around that time. I bought it based on a few reviews which said it was good for the money. I didnt really want to spend more than 200 at the time. It looked good but it felt a bit off so I was going to go for something different. Until I saw a lot of videos on YouTube talking about the model of the watch, some even going as far as to say it was better or equal to a rolex. It was a decision I made to purchase the watch at that point, partially due to your input as well as other youtubers input on the watch.

Upon receiving the watch, I find out that it's much thicker than I expected. I never asked the question of thickness. I decided to work around the problem. And for the last few months I wasn't really all too upset. It's a half decent watch, I suppose. Until I saw this video.

Now I'm a bit ticked. Not at you. At myself.

Here's the lesson people: trust your gut, do your research, and pick something attractive to you even if you have to drop a bit more than you expected to get what you like.

Don't trust influencers and don't trust the hype. It can and will mislead you to buy something you think is better for the money but you may end up in the position I'm in: wishing you would have spent more money on something that actually peaks your interest rather than less on something that doesn't.

By the way: the other option I was looking at was a tissot PRX quartz for around 350. But for right now, I think saving up for something bigger is the right move.

True but if you want the baton hands and butter stick indices of the SNXS, you have to get an SNXS or another seiko5 with a similar dial but some styles have ridges the run across the hour markers that are not always visible in stock photos.
I bought an snxs81 just for the gold dial and swapped it into a stainless steel case of the snxs75. Then sold the gold case gray dial immediately after.

I loved my seiko 5 field watch that I bought brand new for a killer deal until it broke and stopped winding itself after a year and a half and I sent it into seiko who wanted to charge me double the watches price to fix it while it was under warranty. I told them to send it back and they didn’t, then I told them again and I got it back with a note saying it broke because of me mistreating it even though I babied it.
