Thank you for this overview, which is a welcome addition to the media talking heads. This also confirms another fear; namely, the US, for internal and greedy partisan political motives, has thrown Russia into China’s arms.

I think there is a broader context. Ukraine is part of a bigger equation. To handle the situation, the west has to understand it. In my opinion, Russia wants something from the USA, validation. Validation that Russia is equal power to the United States. And Russia needs this validation to deal with China as equal powers. I think the main fear of Putin and the Russian military and political elite, that Russia will see as weak, a country with a failing infrastructure, outdated military, aging population. When you are strong you can use it, when you are not, you are using diplomacy. Putin tries to force Biden to talk to him as equals, to have a dialogue.

US missiles is what you mean by NATO missile defense system? Or were you trying to imply that US nuclear bases will expand into said countries? :D Man, keep It real...
