Sorry, but this guy is simply offering an achingly naive, middle class view of this matter, never touching on the obvious reasons for this epidemic. I grew up in the sixties, born into an extremely deprived, tough neighbourhood In London. We of course had crime and violence, and often lived alongside the criminals responsible. However, it was never as widespread and brutal as right now. And yes, that old cliche about the criminals having certain boundaries that were not crossed is true. Young people were not cutting each up up on a daily basis. As a teenager, I was never afraid to walk around on my own, and the elderly and vulnerable did not live in fear. We respected those in authority, and did not seek to blame society as a whole for any bad behaviour, rather than those directly responsible. Now we live in a city, and country, which has imported thousands, often from societies where violence is a way of life, and crucially, many of the newcomers are either unable or unwilling to adopt our values. My beloved city has become more like a war zone, with the rest of the country fast catching up. The kind of platitudes offered by this man, and others like him, refusing to call out where the main problem comes from, will ensure that this situation only continues, and grows worse. We apparently cannot expect our government and leaders to deal effectively with this Cancer which is destroying our nation.
