Recontextualizes the show as him not wanting to emulate his brother but win his approval, avoiding pain

Beyond the deep emotional stuff, it is crazy they introduced a character for the first time in the whole show right at the end

No one brings the ire of the caul-de-sac residents on the Eds as much as Eddy, but finding out what he had to endure growing up with his brother explains so much about why he is the way he is and humanizes him in the eyes of the audience and the fellow caul-de-sac kids.

All of the Ed’s show signs of some abuse. Ed is handicapped and his parents keep him in the basement, sometimes locking him down there and Double D’s parents are extremely absent, communicating with him almost entirely through sticky notes

The ending of that movie was so perfect, because it was like everything clicked for all the kids that were there and suddenly they no longer wanted to hurt Eddy anymore. Even the Kankers, who tormented the Eds with romance, were mortified at how Eddy's brother treated him and Double D when he tried standing up to him.

I think what makes the time change so much is how it recontextualizes a lot of the show’s whacky humor. A big part of Ed Edd and Eddy’s humor was the over the top cartoon violence, and it was always played off for laughs and like their not actually getting hurt, like in most cartoons. But with Eddy’s brother completely changes your perspective as it makes the over the top cartoony violence appear so brutal and overwhelming. It flips the script from moments of characters getting houses dropped on them and being made to laugh, to feeling super uncomfortable as Eddy is dragged through the mud by his brother.

The show made me reconsider my relationship with my brother. Im 5 years older than him, when this dropped i was maybe 10-12, my brother was 5-7 and i realized i was kinda abusive to him, but he always looked up to me and it made me feel terrible. Now hes my best friend and were practically always together at the ripe age of 27 and 22.

And that's not even mentioning the one episode where Eddie lies about his brother returning and all the kids seemed scared that basically foreshadowed his brothers reputation/abuse

Still feels like just yesterday I was watching this when it first aired. Man I miss being a kid.

All three Ed’s grow in that scene and do things they don’t normally do. Double D is the first to stand up to Eddie’s brother and be brave when he’s normally a coward. Ed does something smart when he’s usually dumb. Eddie is holding onto a door while his brother is pulling on him trying to get him to let go so he can beat him up more. So Ed pulls the pin in the door hinge out and Eddie goes flying with the door to smack his brother in the face and knock him out. Then when they all rush over to help Eddie he finally fesses up to lying about his brother to make himself seem cooler than he was and hide from the truth himself. He’s finally being honest with himself and his friends when he’s normally a liar and a scammer.

So it shows that these characters can grow and even though the show ended they all kept growing as they grew up.

The creators really did fool us with promising they’d show us what was under Double D’s hat in the finale.

Eddie getting over his obsession to please his older brother was like watching Vader come back to the light.❤

To me, it always seemed like the Eds had the shittiest home situations out of all the cul-de-sac kids (besides maybe the Kanker Sisters, but they technically didn't live in the cul-de-sac, they lived nearby).
Ed's parents obviously favored Sarah over him, you can tell by the fact that she has her own room whilst Ed sleeps in the basement (not to mention the one time Ed got grounded and his parents took away the basement stairs as punishment). Ed is also very scared of Sarah, because he knows that she could easily get him in trouble. I'm pretty sure his parents also fought.
Edd's parents were never home at all. Even though all the parents in the show are never really seen onscreen, Edd's parents are even more absent, only ever leaving sticky notes around the house, listing chores for Edd to do.
And then there's Eddy, who not only has been implied to get his ass whooped by his dad, but he also wanted to be just like his older brother. If I'm not mistaken, I think Eddy's bedroom actually used to be his brother's room before he'd moved out. His brother also used to pull scams back when he lived in the cul-de-sac. Eddy very clearly looked up to his brother and saw him as a role-model, only for us to learn that the guy was just a piece of shit who got a sick enjoyment out of preying on anyone weaker than him.
(Also, quick sidenote: my favorite part of the Big Picture Show was how Eddy's brother was defeated. Not only was he defeated with brains instead of brawn, but it was ED of all people who outsmarted him.)

This one single character that is brought up every now and then just completely changes your view on the whole show without messing any previous episode, and he shows up at the very end of the series... it really is insane lol

Bruh no one talks about this, watching it felt like the end of a coming of age movie. Felt like my childhood was over after the movie.

"C'mon bro, give it up..."

One of the saddest things said on CN.

Seeing eddy’s brothers room always made me think wow that guy must be so cool to have a camel and a car in his room but when you think about how their parents hid his room behind wallpaper shows that they love him but are very happy he’s out of the house.

Honestly, Ed Edd n' Eddy was so insanely peak that CN couldn't help but involve it in that Halloween lore cameo thing they had going on with Aliens. I think this whole cameo thing involved like 4~5 other cartoons like Camp Lazlow, and was also during CN's fun age where they made all these commercials where all the cartoons interacted like Dexter and The Professor in the Supermarket parking lot, but it was still an insane W for cartoons.

Granted, I think this was when they tried to bring Ed Edd n' Eddy back with like, School episodes back when THOSE were hyped (Like when the haha funny Llama chad went to School to 'become emperor'.) but still. EEnE had a helluva run and I'm glad I was there for it.

The thing that gets me to tear up to this DAY is when Eddy finally confesses. He just got the crap beat out of him and as it's happening, he's seeing what he hyped up about his brother crumbling in front of everyone else. And when he thought the cul-de-sac kids were gonna give him round two after his brother get fought off... That genuine apology still breaks my heart sometimes, especially because I've been there, growing up with an older brother who was cool, but then became abusive.

Ed finally used his noodle that day and it was SO SATISFYING to see Eddy's brother get railed by that door.
