Blackbeard and his pirates rarely fought the merchant vessels they commandeered. Their secret? Pure intimidation.

It was Blackbeard's Size that scared people. He was 6'5" and weighted 220 pounds. He was a big guy for that time frame

"Blackbeard's Face Was His Greatest Weapon"

When I was young, I thought that Blackbeard was the evil twin of Santa

So, he used Fear and Intimidation and (allegedly) never killed anyone.

Blackbeard sounds like a pirate version of Batman with that description.

Imagine being on a ship and encountering this towering figure, his face wreathed in smoke, his eyes alight with fury, and armed to the teeth

Blackbeard was born in my town, the same town as Banksy.

I don't see how anyone would really know that he never killed before..

I LOVE learning about historical pirates! For some reason, I think they have more class than today's pirates!

There is a campaign to have a statue of Blackbeard made in his hometown of Bristol right now.

Blackbeard is my hero... even today. He deserves it.

BlackBeard was also a Bristolian from the UK as well. He would have seen alot of the slave trade going on back then too. What a badass

A good percentage of us needed glasses and we couldn’t see that his hair on fire was not a lit fuse.

Edward Teach was his real name, I believe, or possibly Thatch, historians aren't sure. In terms of movie-portrayals, Robert Newton, of Long John Silver/Treasure Island fame, the best, as the actor was born to play a pirate. Peter Ustinov played him in comical/sympathetic-fashion, a pirate who simply was misunderstood & unfairly-treated by history, but who possessed a heart-of-gold.
