Science News Ep11: Japanese students invented flying bike

The flying bicycle features huge wings and a large fan behind it. This fan links to the bike pedals, allowing the rider to spin it as they go. Although being pedal-powered, it works like a regular airplane. It has to speed along a runway to gain enough momentum and lift to increase altitude.

This is a project from Osaka Public University’s student organization, the Sakai Windmill Association. The project is called the “Tsurugi,” meaning “sword.”

That’s so awesome. It was entirely human powered? If so, that’s such a sick achievement fr

Considering how difficult the Gossamer Condor was to get to work, and how incredible the cyclist piloting was, this is seriously impressive. It the difference mostly just advances in light and strong materials?

Looks like the MIT Daedalus 88 which flew over 100km from Crete to Santorini in 1988.

Well the right brother we’re in like 1930 and they did not have a guide on how to do it and didn’t know what they were doing but he got to learn everything to learn to make an airplane

In 2019 they did fly 60km with one in Japan. And the wright brothers sort of had to invent flying, i think they went for that and not distance...😂

That was impressive and I don't want to take anything away from a job well done. 👍
But they had the advantage of 100 years of aerodynamic experience. And the latest in lighter synthetic building materials.
