I visited Graceland years ago. This was playing on a screen in the room where his costumes were on display. When it started, everyone gravitated over to it. When it was over, everyone was in tears. I even saw a biker looking guy take his bandanna off and wipe his eyes. Elvis's voice and delivery are unmatched. He was/is one of the best vocalists ever. Just watching this moves me to tears all over again.

When I served in the US Army, I was a vocalist for the 1st Cavalry Division. We often performed this song and I remember one time after I got done singing this, an old man walked up to the stage with tears streaming down his face. He clasped my hand tightly and, barely able to speak, said “ Thunk you, young man. I’m an old man and my time is growing short but I heard the King again for the last time today in your voice. God bless you”. Of course, I couldn’t sing like Elvis on my best day but this old man clearly heard or maybe even saw Elvis in his younger years and just hearing and seeing this song performed by a soldier in uniform brought back some deeply moving memories of the King to him. He didn’t see or hear me…..old as he was he heard and saw Elvis one last time. Such was the powerful impact Elvis had on his fans. RIP Elvis and RIP old man….I never got his name but this happened 25 years ago so I’m sure he’s passed long ago.
