This is the best 1980’s video I have ever seen.

72 and I swim 3-4 times/week. Read Total Immersion. I relearned swimming stroke 4 years ago and this book shows me all the nuances of swimming correctly and with no injury. PT guys did miss the rotation and techniques to use the larger muscle groups rather than the tendoned connectors for propulsion.

This is a great explanation, I have shoulder pain on my left side every time I swim and just to see on your video how the shoulder pinch the pen, it made me realized I'm totally doing that mistake, its not much about resting my shoulder from swimming is about to have a good technique, definitely will look for those bobbles, thank you so much guys you are awesome..!

It is important to note: if you breathe to one side (mainly) then the other side is put into a more strained position. I was lazy in practice, almost always breathed to the right and my left shoulder got bursitis. Try to break this bad habit and alternate breathing.

Thank you guys. Im 70 yrs old and have rediscovered lap swimming that I was active in my 20s and 30s. I've been swimming 4 days a week 35 laps that takes me around an hour. After 5 mos I developed shoulder pain. Your video explaining keeping a center line and not letting my stroke cross that line has really helped. My shoulder was popping on every stroke and now is almost completely gone. Thanks again swimming is the best exercise for me.

You guys forgot that a correct free style stroke includes body rotation and elbow up precisely to avoid impingement

Just want to thank you for your info in your swimmer's shoulder pain videos, crossing the mid-line in my stroke and the exercises to relieve impingement...thought I was going to have to stop swimming...disaster since it helps with my arthritis and keeping my weight down at 63. I did the exercises and watched my stroke...one day and no pain during, little sore after but no grabbing pain like before, thanks so much B&B most famous and generous to share such life changing knowledge.

Thank you. 52 year old swimmer here. Shoulder problems -- especially as I was trying to lose some belly fat. Will check if I am crossing over or not and will work in some breast strokes to warm up. Thanks again.

This biggest thing to Prevent should pain is to have good catch and pull technique. But also just as important is to make sure your body rotates so you’re not swimming flat like your skeleton when the pen is being pinched. Swimming flat on the water will definitely cause shoulder pain

You guys are the best kind of helpful goofballs. Thank you so much. One thing I think is important to add is warm-up exercises to loosen the tendons before jumping in the pool. Do agree that is important as well as mechanics?

Very helpful video and yesss.. I cross over my arms... ugh..! gotta work on that.. my pain is in the back of my shoulder when I glide, meaning stretching up my arms to the front, but I just learned why... I'm pinching my tendon... make sense..! Thank you

Most pools have a line or some sort of a pattern that make it obvious if you are crossing the centerline, but the bubble tip is a good one for open water.
