Today, I’m going to show you how to stop a dry cough, but these home remedies will also work for a mucus cough.

Most dry cough remedies involve medication that suppresses the cough. However, suppressing the cough is not always best because coughing is one of the body’s vital defense mechanisms.

A cough can result from a post-nasal drip caused by an allergy, cold, virus, or fungal infection. It can also be a side effect of certain medications or be related to GERD or asthma.

Many children have asthma because their mothers did not get enough vitamin D during pregnancy. Vitamin D is essential for lung formation. If a cough is caused by croup, vitamin D is also an excellent home remedy.

Some coughs are caused by low humidity. In this case, try a humidifier.

Laryngospasms can also cause a dry cough. These spasms are often caused by low calcium in the blood. A deficiency in vitamin D3 can cause low blood calcium. Take 20,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily if you’re dealing with a cough related to laryngospasms. Always take magnesium and vitamin K2 with vitamin D3.

Chronic dry cough can also be caused by perfumes, smoke, new furniture, or tic disorders.

NAC (n-acetyl-cysteine) is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that breaks up mucus in the lungs. To use NAC for a cough, dissolve ¼ teaspoon of NAC powder into 4 ounces of water. Once dissolved, add ⅛ teaspoon of magnesium in the form of Epsom salt. Add this liquid to a nebulizer and breathe in for 5 minutes, 1 to 2 times daily.

• Be sure to use food-grade Epsom salt.
• Make sure the NAC and Epsom salt are fully dissolved before nebulizing.
• Use sterile or distilled water to prevent contamination.
• Consult a healthcare professional before nebulizing any homemade solution.

Black seed oil and white horehound are also good home remedies for a cough if taken with vitamin D3, K2, magnesium, and zinc.

I had a terrible cough for 2 1/2 years that was a side effect from a medication I took. Even though I had stopped the medication the cough persisted. I coughed every five minutes, literally, for 2 1/2 years. It was one of the most difficult times of my life. I have tried everything in this video and more. I went to three doctors, had an endoscopy, you name it - I was desperate and exhausted. The cough wasn’t a little cough, I would drool and couldn’t hold my bladder I would cough so hard. I’m hoping this helps somebody. I live in the desert and my family and I went to Florida and then on a seven day cruise and by the end of the cruise I never coughed again. All I can figure is that it was very humid and that constant humidity allowed my body to heal.

Had a cough for years. Many doctors wanting to give me drugs, or allergy medication. My wife and I went on Keto and my cough stopped. I started introducing items back in. When I put back in the sugar, I started getting phlegmy and a cough. I took out ALL types of sugar and I no longer have a cough.

Nothing is worse than a constant painful dry cough that will not let you sleep the night yet you need sleep to heal. Years ago I coughed for a year straight. I had just gotten promoted to manager and was at a high in my career yet the dry cough was ruining my life. I had a love of chocolate milkshake and french fries and had it every single day sometimes twice back then. Once I omitted that, started to drink soup and lost weight ONLY THEN did the horrific cough start to decrease. It took another 4 months to completely go away. Also not eating anything after 9 pm and going to bed early helped. Lifestyle changes are key for healing as we age. Stay away from cough syrups they are expensive, do not work and increase your sugar for no good reason.

Shared this with my asthmatic sister. Can't tell you how many times she's been "cough-shamed" since COVID. Hoping this can help her!

There was a time in my past when I had a dry cough for 6 months. I went to all types of specialists and took all types of medications. The last doctor, an ENT specialist, asked me if I ever tried to hold in my breath. He said try holding in my breath for a count of 40 and repeat 10 times. Miraculously this worked. Since then whenever I have a cough I try holding in my breath as he directed. May not get rid of the cough completely, especially if it's allergies, but it still helps. But I hold in my breath for five instead of ten times because holding in the breath can lead to a temporary rise in blood pressure.

I have scar tissue on my lungs from Covid. My pulmonologist said that the only reason why I got scar tissue on my lungs is because I was severely low on vitamin D. I’m just starting taking NAC and it’s helping me out so much

I started vitamin D at 50, 000 IU in a day at the end of summer (I previously only took 10, 000 - 20, 000 per day).
# 1 my SAD was way better - not gone - but 50% better for sure!
#2 I just caught the flu (it’s an awful one) last week. But my asthma did not flare AT ALL, I’ve got chest congestion and hacking cough and runny nose, but no Wheezing or shortness of breath. It’s amazing!
Side note I also started L-reuteri a month ago, so that also may be helping my overall sense of well-being of which I generally have none.
Thank you as always for the helpful information!

Hmm. I doubled my Vit D supplement last fall because I was low, and I so far have managed to avoid the bronchitis that I have been getting every winter for several years running. Sounds like there might be a connection.

When I did have bronchitis, I found running my humidifier in the bedroom on a very high level (70%) helped relieve my bronchitis within days (after coughing my head off for 2 months). But better is to never get it at all!
