Thank you for making this! I went to a Streltsy museum in Moscow a couple years ago and was really fascinated by them...A very underrated and unknown early modern military unit!

Love your videos, the only thing that IMO can improve them a lot is balancing the volume, it is very quiet most of the time and is not consistent through the video,
Thanks for the content and have a great 2021!

"Big booms and flashes, deadly for certain. But silent death, an arrow from the shadows... now thats true terror." -a late renaissance archer probably.

Actually i think my dad said something like this when he was teaching me archery. Im really thankful for learning young though. Ranged weapons have been a life-long fascination. Truly the ultimate equalizer. Wether against tyrants, armies or tatar hordes.

Thanks for the video - honestly you explained the succession much easier than my history prof. I didn't realize that Feodor was Sofia's brother. What is intsresting is that Streltsy were originally a modern force. The Ivans (III the Great and IV the Terrible) really modernized the Russian army. So while they became outdated as the video says, they were a real, modern asset to the Russian army in the 16th century.

I doubt that Bow and Arrow and Crossbow are Always more Precise and have more reach then Muskets or Arquebuses ,

and some crossbows need very long to reload .

So they are Russian janissaries with cool axes minus the Devşirme.

It is a myth that they used their axe as a stand for weapons, the weight of the Russian manual arquebus at that time was comparable to the AK loaded with cartridges, but about 1 kg heavier.
As proof, there is the existence of this large axe with a built-in firearm.

How many cannons did the Streltsy units have? I am curious to learn a more nuanced breakdown of their units :)
