We Fed Our First Rat to our Hunter Cats! 🐱 (working barn cat training)

Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!

Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

Be sure that you are deworming the cats regularly if they are allowed to eat their catches. Rodents tend to carry a few different worm types

Looks like Casper is in need of a job! Giant Shnauzers are working breeds that needs a mission/sidequest. By telling him to be quiet, you aren't giving him attention but you are directing him into a mission to accomplish. You can try telling him to be quiet just before you start recording. I think that will work. Or send him patrol, give him something to do :)

If you haven't noticed, cats developed meowing to talk to humans -- They use chirps & brrs to other cats. There is a search/call sound that' sorta ends with a questioning "ow" but the beginning burr is the longer & more emphasized part. Basically, if they "meow", they are talking to _you._

I think it's more the stress of being caught that causes a heart attack it's actually common in wild animals. Thank God cricket is finally pregnant as it would be nice to have a great grand baby from Tilly still on the farm

Even when you're feeding them a good hunting cat will still hunt! We had indoor/outdoor cats for awhile and they were excellent hunters, they're now retired to an indoor life due to their age and where we moved

Goat milk really puts weight on cats. I know people say milk is bad for cats but goat in general and even better if it's rare has never cause a problem with my cats. They get some every morning and they LOVE it like crazy. Also neutering Casper may calm him down unless you plan to keep him intact. So happy Cricket is finally prego

Some of those bits of wood have been pressure treated with chemicals. You do NOT want to burn those.
The ones that have tiny rectangular notches in them about a centimeter long are the ones that have been pressure treated.

Cats usually regulate themselves with eating. But they showed they know what to do. Luna is so sweet.

Hahaha! Your face matched my sentiments on the thought of the cats eating that rat. Oh my gosh, Luna has the cutest, most irresistible face - you can't say "no" to that! I must be a cross between you and Kevin in the organization category. I could have never spent that much time playing Tetris with those boards, though. Good job!
