Should Regents exams be the requirement?

For decades, the Regent's Exam has been required to graduate high school in New York. But now, the future of the standardized test is very much up in the air. Many say they're not an accurate reflection of what a student can do, while others say we should not lower standards.

as a student this is absolute crap you mean if I pass all my classes with all A's which I am and dont pass the regents tests I can't graduate its absolutely ridiculous the rule is idiotic im a transfer student from Texas and already took my required exams why should I take them over when I move here as well? thats also something I dont understand people somebody can we please put an end to standardized tests setting us up for failure im a senior I haven't touched algebra since freshman year I have no recollection of most it please put an end to this!

I 200% agree that they are made optional. I think that the only thing the regents cause is stress, discouragement and frustration in the students, which causes them to lose the desire to continue studying and sometimes they end up as school dropouts. Also, make them a requirement for Graduation has never been fair for any student and it takes away many opportunities and if they do not pass these exams they do not graduate regardless of whether they passed their courses with an excellent grade, leaving unimportant all the effort that the students have made to obtain good grades in classes for a whole year. An exam does not decide how successful a person can be.

They should get rid of regents exam because my school did something stupid where it counts towards your final grade and theirs still special appeals for it and it causes people to fail for the year

Its a useless test. Whats the point of working hard ALL year just for some tests to determine if we graduate or not, If thats the case then let me just study the shit yall been putting in the regents, take the damn test and get out of here. At this point school isnt even about learning, its just about getting grades. The NYCDOE really knows how to take the joy out of learning and just make it about learning some shit so we can take a BS test. Like what happened to learning math to help us in our real lives? What happened to learning to write and read to better our literature and vocabulary? But no its all just so we can take a bum shit test. Im convinced the only reason they force us to take regents is so that they can profit off of our grades because i heard they get funded off of passing grades from standardized tests, so that means it doesnt benefit student AT ALL. Ban these tests right now, i want to learn to LEARN and to further my knowledge and education, not take a dumb test. I dont want to learn some shit just for a test then forget it the day after the test then worry about my grade, and I dont want to waste time because if i get good grades in class and a bad grade on the test then that would effect me alot more. I HATE regents, my peers do as well, and many teachers hate these exams as well and one of my teachers even called it a joke test. I dont want to do it just because i have to, i want to do it and get something out of it but im not. The only thing im getting out of it is stress and a grade THATS IT. There are so many other ways to assess a child's knowledge and learn if they grasped important information by i dont know... MAYBE THE FUCKING ASSIGNMENTS THEY'VE BEEN DOING ALL YEAR. The NYCDOE and the education system in general has soooo many flaws. Im going to need yall to listen to the damn students because WE'RE the ones going through the shit yall put us through, and we're the ones that are supposed to get something out of education, not your wallet.

Although its dumb that regents are a requirement to graduate, they are not that hard (especially algebra 1 and le) but i guess the other exams are harder but its a way to get people to work and not treat high school like its a cakewalk.

I think its bs that if I fail i cant go on vacation with my family so i cant fail and im a 9th grader who just passed my first regents last year in living enviroment but this year i have 2 regents for math and earth science😢😢😢😢😢

The Regents are easy thou.. I was able to pass mines on the first try even thou my teachers didnt think i was ready for them.
