GTA commuters will now be reimbursed their single-ride TTC fare when transferring to and from GO Transit as part of the city’s one-fare program. As CBC’s Patrick Swadden reports, the province has committed to funding the new program until March 2026.

Keep hearing that traffic congestion costs the economy billions every year. Surely the tens of millions it costs to fund this particular program makes sense in that context to get more people out of their cars and onto more sustainable transportation options.

The GTA finally catching up to other G7 cities. Canada for been a developed nation is so behind in transportation. I just hope the province continues to fund this program. Ontarians and Canadians DESERVE world class transit .

About friggin time.

Peel region now costs $6.60 Round Trip instead of $13 per day.

This will save me at least $120 more a month.

Fare capping is great for tourism. I was just in NYC and they have a cap of $34 for 12 or more rides within a 7 day period.

This is the kind of everybody wins policy people want to see from governments.

Holy cow when I was going to school I had to do YRT - GO - TTC because of the changes to transit at York University. This is great for students it will save tons of money for them.

I dont remember but I think it was costing me 20+ dollars a day...

The fact this wasn't a thing from day one is insane to me 😮😮😮😮

Where I live (Edmonton), big city tickets work for regionals, just not normal monthly passes (you need fancy commuter pass)

Between one-fair transit, Wifi inside buses, less delays and subway line extension (to areas like Scarborough). Finally the TTC is improving and the experience is becoming better and I love to see it. Hope this keeps up because this is all great news.

I wish Montreal had something like this. The STM's antiquated fare machines don't even let you pay with your phone.

now that fare is fully integrated the TTC should be running deeper into Mississauga and York Region to eliminate inconvenient bus transfers on popular routes.

This should stick around. It doesn't just benefit transit users. If more people take transit because of the cost reduction, there should be less traffic which benefits people who drive. It will not happen overnight but if people start seeing more potential money in their pocket taking transit and travel times are comparable to driving, they might actually ditch their cars. Especially now when money is tight for a lot of families. This will also be good news for those who need a new car but can't afford the insane prices. If a large amount of people start selling vehicles, the prices should drop.

Well done! Big win for those having to use multiple transit systems.

A decision that should have been taken at least 15 years ago... I hope they can work on schedules and hygien of the public transit as well.

That Brampton Transit 103 bus is actually a MiWay bus from Mississauga. That route just happens to end in Brampton.

In L.A. everything is dirt cheap wherever you go (US$1.75). Even cheaper if you have a senior or disabled pass. One exception is Metrolink commuter rail. More expensive for that.

The real reason behind this is to bring ridership up. If they can prove more passengers, municipalities can receive more funding from federal and provincial governments. Hopefully, that money will go back into the system.
