How To Prune Trees, And Other Tree Tips🌳

Показать описание
Tips: The best time to prune off branches is usually early spring but that’s not always realistic. Try to avoid extreme temperatures and don’t do this too late in the fall or the tree may not have time to recover before winter (this was early October). If you’re doing this in the summer, as I often do, water afterward if it’s hot and dry.
Don’t prune off too much of a tree at one time or this could potentially create excess stress for the tree. Dead or damaged branches can be removed at pretty much any time.
Use sharp tools and don’t rip or tear. Open wounds can provide entry points for disease-causing microorganisms and attract wood-boring insects, and others, and it can also result in slower healing.
For larger limbs consult with an arborist. Speaking of arborists, if you are one do you have anything to add (or correct?)
Other tree tips:
If the tree is distressed, fertilize or get in touch with an arborist. Adding compost to any plant is always a good idea too. Avoid landscape fabric around the tree so it can get proper nutrients and there is airflow to create healthy soil. No mulch “volcanoes” around the trunk. It needs to breathe. Avoid planting a tree too low in the ground. You should be able to see the root flare (look up visuals for this). Give trees and large shrubs plenty of room in your beds. Don’t plant trees too close to the house, walkways or driveway. I advise checking in with neighbors if you’re planning on planting near the property line. And finally, consider planting native trees.
Save this post for later if you’re planning on pruning or planting a tree some time soon.🌳
