“It Is A MORE LETHAL Variant” | Mpox Virus Spreads To Europe

UK health chiefs are gearing up for the possibility of a new strain of the mpox virus hitting the country, though they stress the risk remains low for now.

This caution comes as the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared a global health emergency on Wednesday, following alarming outbreaks of the virus in west and central Africa. Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a highly contagious virus that causes painful skin lesions and can be deadly in severe cases.

The UK is wasting no time in getting ready, with plans already in motion to ensure healthcare workers across the country can spot the telltale signs of mpox and have rapid tests at the ready.

The concern has ramped up after a case of mpox was confirmed in Sweden, where a person was infected after visiting an African region grappling with the disease.
