My review on the Godzilla showa era collection book/blu ray set by Criterion Collection.

This collection is at the top of my Christmas list, so I’m crossing my fingers I get it. Unfortunately, my parents are telling me I need more “important” gifts for Christmas in “celebration” of my adulthood. All I gotta say is...growing up really is a trap XD Criterion seriously served the fans well with this. The art blows my mind! And it has articles and stuff?? I need this worse now...the Hedorah art does make me sad, though :( They could have recreated it like the American movie poster with Hedorah’s tendrils of grimy doom entangling Save the Earth chick and the skeletons of his victims, but in more poppin’ colors like the rest of the art in the book. Oh well, though. The overall book looks incredible and I am dying to read the descriptions and articles. One day, when I have $112…

I like the set. The focus was the packaging which I didn’t like. I loved the content and images…just not the size and style…its not customer focused. It could have at LEAST been DVD height, at best bluray height. Each disc in could slim 5 mm cases, in addition to a hard cover book w the same content.

However, the packaging issue aside, I’ve viewed all the movies. My only reason to purchase this set was to own the movies on blu-ray. I would have appreciated the rest as a digital download.

If i recall at least one has ONLY an English track as its the American version of the film.
The video quality ranges from pristine to “I’m sure this one is barely remastered” (likely source material issues.) most are glorious mono, some are stereo…all are solid PCM
I already owned ALL the gdvlza movies on dvd.

I’ll likely move the Blu-ray’s to a slim case, copy the book digitally, and toss the huge package.

Got the set 2 days ago. Checked my discs (I always check new dvd/blu rays for scratches) and I have 2 discs that are lightly scratched. Blu rays are harder to scratch than dvds but it does happen. My only complaint with this set is the disc sleeves. Anyone else have any problems with disc scratching?

So far I watched my favorite Godzilla vs Hedorah and a few of the docs on disc 8. I love the book but not a fan how the discs are displayed/stored. I'm pulling my discs out and making my own boxset. Agreed, loved most of the artwork. Great video

Can't wait for your movie by movie review. I've finally have been going through these one at a time. I'm just to say the Japanese Version of King Kong vs Godzilla is awesome. Such a better film then the one we've had. Definitely in my top 5. Have a great holiday season.

I’m sorry but I hate the packaging on this...would have been much better in a nice box set so it can fit on a shelf
