Epic battle: how heroic British infantry soldiers took on French cavalry and won

The colours worn by the Royal Anglian Regiment have long stood as a representation of the bravery of the British soldier, with its roots being forged in the Seven Years War.

The Battle of Minden, which took place 265 years ago on 1 August 1759, saw a mistake in command put infantry soldiers against heavy French cavalry.

Despite the odds, and fears that the order would sign the death warrants for hundreds of men, the infantry overcame their enemy and won the day.

Although I am a foreigner (🇯🇵Japanese), I am proud of them as a citizen of the same constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy.

Hey BFBS 👊🏼
An enjoyable video with real insight.
It's a sad day when we don't learn something... and I did, so thank you for sharing 👍🏻

It's always important to recognise a corp or regiments deeds, from the past, as it shows the journey of how they became to be today, and pays homage to our forbears.

Moreover, knowing your roots makes you stronger and when we face a new challenge or conflict, we band of brothers, feel the spirit of the regiment, that runs through us...

Some of the best years of your life.
Hang tough! 💪🏼

One of the French cavalry regiments at the battle of Minden was the elite "Maison du Roy". They were totally whacked.

Not quite accurate. The British infantry broke the cavalry, not just defensive! The French general thought they were mad.

The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, now part of the Rifles, had a rose incorporated into their cap badge so they commemorated the battle of Minden all the time and not just on 1st August

I was wondering how long it will be before there are complaints about some of the battle honours, which are often in foreign countries and involve violence against foreigners ?

Ditch the beards. They look like trawlermen who've been at sea for months. And what's with the combats? No No2's in the stores?

Also, celebrating a victory in a battle, that ended almost 300 years ago? Like, seriously? Ain't yall got nothing else to do?

Celebrated Minden Day with the Vikings in 1976 whilst attached to them from The Poachers. A great day. However, do not like to see beards being displayed. The pioneer sergeant has lost his uniqueness.
