Fun Fact: In Tolkien's world, Orcs and Goblins are only different names for the same race. They were bred from Elves and possibly humans by Morgoth (the Big Bad of the First Age) and later by Sauron and Saruman. Saruman's Uruk-Hais were just another breed or Orcs. Uruk-Hai in the Black Speech of Mordor just means Orc-folk.

Lord of the rings is really good the audiobook that I listened to had a people doing the voices for every single character and the sounds of running water, footsteps, birds chirping, and backround chatter if there are a lot of people talking to make you feel as though your right there with the characters

Personally, I wasn't fond of The Hobbit. Lord of the Rings is a much better book - my favorite was The Two Towers because it's the most action-packed and because we meet my favorite character in the whole series.

I admit that The Lord of the Rings will be denser with description, but it's still pretty good and chances are that you will enjoy it. The Hobbit is great in itself in my opinion and a good introduction to Middle-Earth.
