Many incoming students need to hone their reading and writing skills and be taught the technological skills necessitated by the career landscape’s digital revolution. However, if they are not engaged with the lesson content, students will not be motivated to learn. Therefore, digital platforms that provide relevant and contemporary examples, customized writing assignments, and opportunities to strengthen students’ technological savvy should be considered, especially in the age of distance learning.
In this presentation, attendees will learn about online materials that provide multimodal assessments and reporting to motivate students and keep them engaged throughout the course. Save time and focus students’ attention on skills they have not yet mastered through a pre-created grammar diagnostic test and tools to create other customized diagnostics.
Detailed performance reporting and analytics that allow instructors to keep a finger on the pulse of their classrooms will be shared. The presenter will show reports that identify at-risk students and key intervention points for those who are struggling, as well as a tool that provides both a big-picture overview of class performance as well as an in-depth look at performance on a per-student and per-question basis.
Attendees will also explore SmartReview, a writing submission and review platform that allows for anonymous peer review, pre-created comments and feedback, and customized rubrics for any writing assignment. Additional assignments providing relevant examples and connections to students’ professional, academic, and everyday lives will also be shown.
