SUZDAL, RUSSIA - Outside of Moscow, we headed to the Russian countryside in search of delicious home-style Russian food and especially for a chance to try the Russian steam bath, known as a banya, or sauna. #Russia #RussianFood

Pechki-Lavochki - Russian countryside lodge - This is where we headed first, an amazing rustic lodge in the countryside, and known for its farm and banya (sauna). We started by cooking lunch, which they had prepared some local Russian dishes, including a soup of cabbage and pork cooked in a hot fire oven, and a selection of pickled wild mushrooms, along with a selection of Russian vodka and drinks. The food was delicious!

Next we went into Suzdal to do some sightseeing, visiting some churches and museums of heritage. We visited the Museum of Wooden Architecture and the Suzdal Kremlin, both of which were impressive.

Ogurets Restaurant - Suzdal, Russia - Next we had a snack at Ogurets Restaurant, a restaurant that translates to cucumber. The food was pretty good, but not as good as the home-cooked food we had before.

We returned to Pechki-Lavochki, the Russian lodge, to eat Russian pancakes and some desserts, and finally for the main event of the night - Russian steam back, or banya (sauna). It was amazing, and there was just enough snow to bake in the banya and then roll in the snow!

Thank you so much for sharing such a great wonerful video. I'm Norwegian and a great fan of Russia... been there for about 7 times times since 2015. Been mostly in Moscow but also visiting some other small villages, and especially for a sauna. Me and my Russian friend, almost everytime rented a banya outside the big cities, and preferabbly the ones with a lake connected to the banya. What else was so intereisting with this video, was all the traditional Russian food in Suzdal. Thank you so much again.

Middle of January is best time to visit Russia . Everything is white. Minus 20 degrees. Sauna and Russian hospitality at its best. I love Russia.

My father was Russian, I remember growing up he would put sour cream in Borscht and pancakes instead of butter, it was so good. My bucket list is to go to St Petersburg and/or Moscow

I'm so pleased to se how similar some of the Russian dishes out of their kitchen is to what I remember from older rural generations was eating here in Sweden, the slowcooking cabbage soup, sourcream, the potatoes with dill, potatoes with utter, pickled fish and vegetables, the lingonberry lemonades, very salt fish or airdried fish, mushrom on the menu, the panncakes but we eat them with all different jam but instead of sourcream we have whipped cream.
We did the Sauna to best temperaturen 90-110° Celsius or för weak hearted amateurs 70-80° Celsius, if you have some stones on top of the heater you put water on it to get it steaming and to make it smell marvellous you pour some beer on it then it smells like fresh baked bread inside the sauna.

Didn't realise Russian food is this wholesome and fresh, everything looks yummy, especially the pork with cheese, pickled herrings, mushrooms and that slow cooked cabbage soup. Wish we can get this type of Russian home stlyle food in London!
