Hey Stef — safety note: watching you install the cowl plugs in the nose:

if you stick them in the way you did, with the cord which connects them BEHIND the propeller, and you forget to remove them before you start the engine, they’ll block airflow into the cowl and the engine will overheat VERY quickly, potentially causing a safety of flight issue.

If you install them with the cord which connects them together IN FRONT of the propeller, and you forget to remove them before you start the engine, the propeller blades will yank them out and throw them clear while you’re cranking, which will embarrass you as soon as you notice but will also eliminate the risk of engine failure and forced landing due to overheating.

Easy habit to form, and much safer!

It never fails to amaze me the experiences this man has had with this aircraft.

Hey Stef, would it be a good idea to maybe show us a flight from beginning to end? I mean showing us the process you use to plan the flight, filing it, plugging it into your systems, and actually performing the flight? I think it could make for some great content :)

This looks like an awesome customisation job! The added safety gear and the GoPro mounts are especially impressive. Great video, Stefan!

Stefan. This has been a particularly interesting and informative video on the often unseen essentials which enable your flying missions and filming thereof.

You’re definitely a lot better prepared than most. No planes I’ve seen carry much in the way of emergency gear and that’s even the ones going out on cross country a lot

Very interesting, thank you for showing us.

You’ve inspired me! I will do a video on the 1960’s or something 182 club plane I fly for $79 an hour. The steam gauges are remarkably accurate!

Good day mate!

Thank you

When I bought my plane (nowhere nearly as fancy as EYZ, alas...) part of my budget was an allowance for making it my own. I bought a canopy cover, wing and tail covers (only used in the winter) and cowl plugs. Now that the dust has settled from the engine rebuild I'm thinking about refreshing the avonics.

Thanks for the tour. Very well prepared for all contingencies! For remote flights do you ever need to carry spare parts for common things that break? Aka like top and bottom hoses, filters and fan belt etc that I carry in my 4wd when I go outback. Of course with aircraft you’d prefer that nothing ever breaks!

Thanks for the tour Stef. One thing I noticed though was that you have Duracell Alkaline batteries as spares. They are known to leak more readily over time, so I would suggest using something like Energizer Alkalines instead, or better still, some Energizer Ultimate Lithium in AA/AAA size. The nominal voltage is slightly higher but most devices should accommodate that fine.

I enjoy your channel. This short video on your plane was most interesting. How often do you clean … and wax? The exterior. Your attention to keeping the scab in simple, yet having important safety gear handy is a great guide for other pilots and even for those who travel on land particularly into more remote regions of Oz. Thanks, Dan in Canberra.

Awesome setup Stef! It really is the Mercedes Benz of 4 seaters. I was excited when I heard you flying EYZ on Saturday on Melb centre. I was in the area in a warrior near French island. I heard you say you altered track to the right to avoid an aircraft at 2500ft heading south towards you within 1nm. Happy flying! Ben
